Interesting. What's the reason for it? Possible sale?

It helps keep the engine in a serviceable condition. But I certainly wouldn't read any more into it than that.
I believe some aircraft at AMARG still do it too.

Doubt you will see much, unless you can get on base..?

Re: Harrier engine runs to take place at Cottesmore
Why is this news in particular when they've been running the engines regularly since the retirement?
Re: Harrier engine runs to take place at Cottesmore
Im struggling to see why anyone would want to watch an engine run by something that has had chance to be watched FLY for the last 40 years!!

bit of a waste of time doing EGR's as all the other Calender based maintenance will be coming up to the limit as well, doubt the GR9/9A will ever go back into service.

Would they use the tie down area on the corner of Hooby lane? or will they use the parking apron?

Don't think anything happened today so maybe early next week?

Any chance it's for a move to get some of the Harriers to Museums?

Why would they run up the engines when the museum aircraft would travel on the back of a truck?.
All it is are a couple of techies out on the pan turning the engine over, in idle if you like, just to move the fluids and liquids around and maintain seals. It's called care and maintenance and will continue until a decision is made about final disposal.

If they want any help with the engine run ups I'm quite happy to help.
Seen it, touched it, sat in it and flown(ish) it!

I'll sooner sit at Cottesmore fence and hear the roar of a Harrier's pegaus at full throttle than sit in a office lisening to the boss moaning his head off about the weather during his golf round .
