Well, I suspect when it first left the factory AAR versions were at the same place on the drawing bard as MR and stand-off missile carrying versions of the VC10, and we've now had those for 27 years!

Thank you so much for posting that fascinating story, which I have filed! It has added resonance for me because I grew up within a stone's throw of the Park and so clearly remember the camp before it was closed and demolished. It was a child's paradise!!

How about the World War 2 Luftwaffe's "Mistel". Converting a Ju-88 into a cruise missile? And for that matter converting either an Fw-190 or Bf-109 into cruise missile launchers.....
nothing is confirmed at a show until its u/c hits the tarmac or it is running in for its display.....

How about Twin Pioneer designed as military with civvy use in mind I believe but not as an airliner. I had the pleasure of flying in both G-APHX and G-APHY between Portsmouth and Jersey.

Sounded good enough to me! I think my idea of the Mosquito passenger aircraft got lost in other things.

Boeing 707 changed into all kinds of different outcomes, like a Stratotanker, Mercury, J-STARS, Sentry etc.

Stratotanker/C-135 series is not a 707, they share a common ancestor but are not the same aircraft, it was designed from the start as such.

How about the P-38 Lightning Transport?

From Wiki
Standard Lightnings were used as crew and cargo transports in the South Pacific. They were fitted with pods attached to the underwing pylons, replacing drop tanks or bombs, that could carry a single passenger in a lying-down position, or cargo. This was a very uncomfortable way to fly. Some of the pods were not even fitted with a window to let the passenger see out or bring in light, and one fellow who hitched a lift on a P-38 in one of these pods later said that "whoever designed the damn thing should have been forced to ride in it.

Surely a 747-400F converted into a megawatt class anti-ballistic missile laser ship must be in there ! :ninja: , aka the Boeing YAL-1.
