Waddo and RIAT compared

RIAT for me, as looking forward to the F35,and just love the actual place. The vulcan won't be missed i doubt,based on last years display somewhere over wales! Far more to whet the appetite this year ,and I'm still hopeful the gorgeous Canberra will make the short trip to Fairford.

What do you think the chances are of Waddington gazzumping RIAT and debuting the F35? I would have thought it would be the prefered venue as far as the British government were concerned.

This year, both RIAT and Waddington look like cracking good shows... but it's RIAT that's tempted me to travel beyond my "local" shows (Old Warden, Duxford, Little Gransden). Simply because it has more stuff that I've never seen before. (A-7's and Orion on static were a factor, not just the flying displays!)

Also - if I'm going to travel, I prefer going to a show that I've never been to before. And I've never been to RIAT (went to Waddington last year...)

Why would you even compare the two shows in the first place???

They are completely different shows, each outstanding in their own right.

Both are organised and managed by teams of extremely hard working people, some of whom are enthusiasts that go above and beyond what required to ensure they get the most varied and quality line ups possible.......

Why? Because some of us don't have the option/luxury of going to both? So (if SWMBO stamps our passes at all!), we must chose between them.

And how can we choose, if not by comparing them? Should people toss a coin, instead of choosing the show that appeals most to their personal interests, and/or has more stuff that they haven't seen before? etc.

I already did a similar comparison before this thread even started, because I had to make that choice!

This does not mean I am critical of either show, or the effort that goes into them....!

By all means compare the line-ups, but in the end, they have different USPs, so they are bound to attract different audiences.

Waddo for me - but then it is up the road and I can get in the Veterans' enclosure.

What is it with the SwAFHF?!! I just don't feel the swedes as much as everyone is implying, to be quite honest I would rather see many things; Tornado Role Demo, C-17 (f), c-130 (f) and believe me I could go on. Obviously everyone is entitled to their own opinion but personally I don't see what the buzz is about.

Quite - not much point being the same as that would be like watching Formula 1 at the moment!

Both are going to lose out, because the Canadian Lancaster is only coming in August and that will be the biggest stir of the 2014 season. of course, it wouldn't be the F-35 flying with the 2 Lancs as "Chadwick/Avro" designs, would it?

There is no Tornado role demo anymore or a C-17 or C-130 display.
