Anyway.....

The question I asked to Steve Liddle, and which was never answered, was 'what are the Trustees doing to fix the current mess?'
At what point are the trustees going to hold the VTTS executive to account and ask them for demonstrable, material, progress towards delivering the aims of the charity. Continuing in the current form, raising money just to pay the salary of a team of fundraisers & management, is not acceptable.
It's interesting to point out that the only noteworthy ongoing activity that the trust can lay claim on, is the restoration of the XL388 nose section - a project undertaken by volunteers and without financial assistance from the trust. Surely, there, we have a shining, ready to be painted, example of how the Trust should be organised going forwards?

Surely, the time has come for the trustees to wind up VTTS in it's current form and reorganise based on volunteer labour?
Over these past years, I have seen precious little evidence of the trustees doing anything other than rubber stamping the plans & decisions of Dr Bob.
I know that it'll be difficult & painful to salvage anything from the mess that this project has become, but enough has to be enough, now.
Eccentric, idealistic, and creative, sometimes to the point of delusion..

Guys, please take this bickering to PM, none of you are covering yourselves in any glory......

Take a step back and look at how this appears to other forum members, you're both adults, right?

Sorry but what??!!!

I get called a clown. I make a valid defence and yet my valid defence is taken down as its character assassination?

Why are there people on here that insist on hiding the fact that Mr O'Hagan continually gets away with bullying and yet when someone stands up for themselves they have their posts deleted, but his calling me a clown is allowed to remain.

For information, everything I posted is verifiable FACT. that article I quoted was printed in The Guardian.

I left your keyboard warrior quote in place, so consider yourself even.

The difference is that Dan isn't using a made up user name, everyone knows who he is, so bringing up personal stuff about him outside of aviation is a little out of order IMO. I never brought into question that what you said was factual or not.

Who are you?

Well there was the decade or so of restoration and flight status where you famously maintained ( topically enough ) that "it's not viable... it's not sustainable" and that VTTS would fail imminently in one way or another etc etc etc.

I heard a phrase recently :- 'Even a stopped clock is right twice a day' so I don't think the odd soothsaying 'success' in amongst all the duds is really anything to boast about. And it's not over yet, in fact it appears we might be on the brink of some very positive news.

If thats the news then its not really good news.
The fact they are in this situation is a fact of failure to be outside with no roof overhead at this great place called Doncaster we was told was the best place.
So begging for a hand out of the pit is not positive news.

Just puts them back to the same standing 3 years ago.
That lasted less then 2 years.
It will be very intresting.

The Trust has been very clear that its strategy is to build a new home for XH558 (in accordance with its objectives) and that this provides the best chance of a long term (by which we mean decades, in accordance with the HLF contract) sustainable future for the aircraft. The Trustees have tasked the Trust with achieving this goal, within a realistic timeframe. The involvement of other parties means that our hands are to an extent tied in terms of our ability to report progress to the wider world, but I’m satisfied that we are on track. The Trust has said that there will be an important announcement soon.

IgnatiusJReilly wrote:At what point are the trustees going to hold the VTTS executive to account and ask them for demonstrable, material, progress towards delivering the aims of the charity. .

The direct answer to your question is that the Trustees meet formally every couple of months (potentially more often, including meetings held by conference calls) and hold the Trust to account for progress towards its goals.

IgnatiusJReilly wrote:Continuing in the current form, raising money just to pay the salary of a team of fundraisers & management, is not acceptable. .

Indeed it would not be, if that is what was happening. As you might imagine, developing a £3m project is also a substantial activity.

IgnatiusJReilly wrote:It's interesting to point out that the only noteworthy ongoing activity that the trust can lay claim on, is the restoration of the XL388 nose section - a project undertaken by volunteers and without financial assistance from the trust. This is far from the only activity going on, but I agree it is a shining example of how the Trust can use its resources to fulfil its wider objectives. There are many ways of supporting in kind that are not financial. For example, how is it that you have come to hear of the superb work on XL388?

IgnatiusJReilly wrote:Surely, the time has come for the trustees to wind up VTTS in it's current form and reorganise based on volunteer labour? .

The Trust is very lucky to have significant volunteer labour. The Trustees themselves of course fall in to that category. However, to give just one example, if you were about to commit to a £3m investment over a long timescale, would you be content with a purely volunteer force in place?

IgnatiusJReilly wrote:Over these past years, I have seen precious little evidence of the trustees doing anything other than rubber stamping the plans & decisions of Dr Bob. .

How could you know this? The fact that you are able to make this statement with a straight face leads me to believe that you are one of my fellow Trustees, winding me up.

Read into it what you like, but the forecast increased passenger and cargo numbers make any kind of high speed taxiing look far from reality...

To be the next national centre for airfreight, 3000 houses, rail link (guess where the shortest distance from the railway into the airfield is?), build 3000 houses, Hotel Retail and Leisure complex planned, doubling the terminal size, Masterplan will see the FULL development of the 2.5 sq mile airport site!

Hope they have factored in the new hangar, and then subsequently the ETNA hangar in their plans (unless the aircraft get dumped outside someplace, so that the new hangar can be demolished and ETNA built?).

Sounds interesting, and surely 3000 homes will take a reasonable footprint?
the Railway is interesting as the shortest point onto the airfield to do, as the Americans call it a 'Y', allowing trains from either direction to access the site is right through the sewage works. And i doubt they would want a longer line than is necessary as the groundworks would be hellishly expensive. (Moving services etc)

Heck if they want the growth they say they do, maybe they have unpublished plans for a second runway? Now that would be interesting.

I would not go that far, mentioned yes positive?, well they have this big plan and nothing will come before there commercial goal.we have seen that with hangar 3 and then hangar1,
With all the future plans its not going to be a place to visit to see any fast taxi runs. Even engine runs i feel will be a problem.

Come on Rich, make an effort with the spelling and grammar. The opening sentence here barely qualifies as gibberish.

Mods, can we sharpen up the enforcement of that particular rule? Rich is far from the worst (or only) culprit across the board.

I don't know Doncaster Airport.

Here is screenshot of the Masterplan 2018 -- is this where the Vulcan is now ?

Image

Because here is a screenshot of the Masterplan 2037 -- and it's in the same place, so the earmarked hangar for it, might be here -- I would suggest.

If this isn't where the Vulcan is, but something else, then I can't see where the Vulcan might be 'shoehorned' into on the 2037 Masterplan.
Disclaimer-I have spell/grammar checked this post, it may still contain mistakes that might cause offence.

I'll make an alternative wild guess, that the rail connection is proposed to enter the airport from the west, with a 'Y' connection ('triangle' in UK rail parlance) a mile or so to the north west.

What makes me think this...? It's shown on the map!!!
And as the smart ship grew,
In stature, grace and hue,
In shadowy silent distance grew the iceberg too....

Back in the good old days, when I was at RAF Finningley, we used to install a temporary rail halt each year, for the airshow. Now those were the days!

For £30 you can have you name stuck to the understand of XH558.

Or for £29 you could have a nice day out at the Cosford Airshow and see lots of aircraft actually fly!

It's all about choices...

Spot-on speedbird2639 & the major difference for 'JetMan' to understand is that you can incur travel costs to go & see the RAF Cosford Show, but you can't go & see this Vulcan can you?
So I pay £30 to TVGT (The Vulcan Gravy Train) to have me 'outed as a Sucker', but never get to see my name "preserved in stupidity"? Not a good deal at all!

But food and drink is provided at the ground run, not at cosford... I was merely pointing out that speedbirds comparison isn’t as simple as it was made out to be.
