Red Arrows incident

Post by tankbuster81 »

Just reading on social media that a Hawk, of the Red Arrows has crashed, minutes ago at RAF Valley? Hopefully this isn't as bad as it sounds

It does appear that it was at Valley. Believed the pilot ejected, but his condition is unknown.

Nothing on mainstream media, but aviationwales.com quoted on FB 'birdstrike followed by ejection'
360 showing Coast Guard S-92 up in the area and Hawk T2 holding south at 10k.

Not seen anything concrete yet, but numerous people saying "I've heard", as social media frequently does.

If it's true (probably likely) then naturally I hope all's ok with the occupant(s)

Apparently there were two ejections, but whether there were two "good 'chutes" ?

Latest report is that the pilot and his 'blue' ejected safely and have minor injuries only. Happened on takeoff for the return to Scampton. As mentioned, a suspected bird strike as they lifted. Aircraft circled to return and crew ejected in order that the aircraft came in on the airfield not outside the boundary.

Whilst this would be great news, i've not seen this reported officially anywhere?

Helimed 61 Lifted from Valley, direct to Birmingham as opposed to the nearest Trauma Centre, which I hope is a good indication!

Do not know the circumstances,
but indeed one fatality now, the engineer:
https://twitter.com/DefenceHQ/status/976163241931001857

http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-wales-north- ... ws_central
An engineer has died after an aircraft used by the Red Arrows display team crashed at RAF Valley on Anglesey.

The RAF confirmed the pilot of the Hawk aircraft survived and was receiving treatment in hospital.

Eyewitnesses had reported that only one person had ejected from the jet before it crashed and burst into flames.

An air ambulance was sent to the scene at about 13:30 GMT on Tuesday but it was later confirmed that the engineer had died.

Reading a statement at the RAF base, Group Captain Nick Tucker-Lowe family said their family had been informed and had asked for 24 hours grace before more details were released.

The pilot was receiving medical care, he added.

Can we please apply some common sense with posts regarding incidents of this nature. At no point has anybody been named by official sources so it is not right for speculation, as that is exactly what it is, to appear as to who may be involved.

Posts that included such information have been edited.

Common Sense would suggest that families/friends of whoever may be involved does not want nor need to see such information being shared by people in the Media and Social Media. Please let the official process take it's course and for families to be notified.

Sad to see a photographer on the fenceline has gone running to the Daily Mail with photographs of the incident.

Those images should have gone to the RAF investigators and nobody else, not to a gutter tabloid, presumably for a few pieces of silver. I'm sure the dead man's family will be delighted to see their loved one's final moments posted as clickbait all over the internet.

David Taylor is the photographer's name. Not, I hope, a UKAR member?

The early speculation posts in this thread are astonishing. Time and time again early reports prove to be false. Now we know the outcome, my thoughts are with the serviceman’s family and the Red team. Very sad event.

"Astonishing" how? The posts mention ejections, which there were. Nothing disrespectful or outlandish. Nothing at all to take offence at.

Except that there weren't were there? Later reports seem to suggest only one.

Plus this... "Latest report is that the pilot and his 'blue' ejected safely and have minor injuries only" sadly couldn't have been much further from the truth and the poster in this case made no reference to his/her 'report'.

It's a tragic event and my thoughts go to all involved, but speculation? Oh there was plenty of that again.

As already said, picture in the Daily Mail is in very poor taste, how must the friends and relatives feel when they see that splashed all over the internet.
Shame on the photographer for offering them to the gutter press.

A tragic event. Not helped by morons all over social media calling for the ax of the red arrows.
