VC10 Taxi Experience - Bruntingthorpe CWJ Open Day

Post by ZD241_VC10 »

Hi all,

We know it’s 1st April, but we are pleased to announce that we will begin offering taxi run experience in VC10 ZD241 at Bruntingthorpe from the May Cold War Jets Open Day. In authentic rear facing RAF style, our guests will be on board for the start up, fast taxi run and the return to the pan. Tickets will be available from our website, www.vc10preservationgroup.org later this week.

This is no April Fools (our April Fools this year involved 2xRB211s!). The price is very reasonable and will be announced later this week (it’s not bus fare cheap, but well less than 3 figures!).

The intention is that these will become a fairly regular occurrence. We’ll start with the CWJ Open Days this season and may add further runs if they are popular and there is enough demand. We are privileged to look after a piece of our aviation heritage; the joy of it being an airliner (and being based at the very live-jet friendly Bruntingthorpe) is that we can share the experience with others.

I am very interested but if it's over £50 and then the Brunty addmission fee added on then it's getting towards an expensive day out for the likes of me sadly.

Once again underlining the benefits of being at Bruntingthorpe.

Thing is, if Bob-A-Job's former flying drinks cabinet was based there, they could probably charge £500 for a seat and people would pay it.

Still, they knew best.

Hope the VC-10 seats sell out many times over.

How about selling off the jump seat in the Victor; if you're lucky you might just get a short flight thrown in!
Seriously, how much would a ride, if feasible, in the Bucc, Canberra or Iskra be?

Not our bag I’m afraid. You’d need to speak to the other teams.

Talking of jump seats, the spare flight deck seats (ZD241 doesn’t taxi with a Navigator at the Nav’s station) may be available for August.

Tickets appear to be on sale at £50 a go - very reasonable and I hope it brings funds to the project!

Affordability (based on the fact people will need to pay to enter the CWJ Event) was a key factor in pricing; we want to raise money but th main factor was covering our costs, which are not insignificant. We are chuffed to bits that ZD241 has so many supporters and that we've sold out the first run within 24 hrs. Rest assured we'll be planning another pax run in August, and the quick rate of ticket sales for our inaugural run has spurred us on to try and arrange some more unique experiences on our classic airliner.

Our thanks of course go to all who have helped us at Bruntingthorpe, in particular (the increasingly important and influential company in aircraft preservation) GJD Services.
