Surprised this hasn't been noted on here given the quite simply extraordinary images of aviation he gave us. A younger st24 certainly had a few of his posters and prints on his bedroom walls..

He was a real innovator. The game has moved on so much, we take much for granted these days. But Richard Cooke gave us angles that had never been seen before. His book with his wife Angela, 'The Red Arrows', is a classic.
RIP.

Some of the most iconic images we've all seen.

He was a true photographer , someone who saw the picture he wanted and built a way to find it. His images are iconic and the climbing Lightning shot he made from a Harrier, gave anyone who viewed it,the sense of the power and excitement which only that aircraft could justify by its presence, especially in the zoom climb shot he took .He certainly encouraged me to try and see an image /picture and search for the means to make it happen. God bless mate ...
Don't say something crass, to hide your envy. Just give credit, when its applicable...
Re: Richard Cooke RIP
Amen to all the comments and all done via a trigger switch in the cockpit linked to a Nikon (of course! )with a wide angle stuck in the tail chute of a Hunter or a fairing under a Gnat and "aimed" via the rear view mirrors relying on thorough briefing, immaculate flying and shed loads of luck! Then take all 36 (!!) shots you had a on a roll of Kodachrome and wait for them to come back (via Paris) to Kodak house in London 2 days later! Proper stuff; it really does make the digital, endless shots, auto-everything, go-pro era look like complete child's play.

He was also one of DanO's disrespected pensioners.

Very sad news.
His Harrier GR3 firing rockets over the range is a classic!

Absolutely. One of my favourite aviation photographs of all time - had a big poster of it from an airshow in the 90s.
The documentary is a fascinating watch that I'd not seen before. Thanks for sharing the link.
