737 max 8 crash BBC reporter

Post by HeyfordDave111 »

This morning on the BBC breakfast time programme they discussed with an aviation 'expert' this case and the coincidence of the crash yesterday with the one late last year.

Yhe 'expert' said...... quite rightly that the climb and descent phases are the most tricky, but then went on to say 'the climb and decent phases of flight are mandatory in the aviation industry'!!!!

You really couldn't make it up!

Where do they find these people? :wall:

I saw this interview and to be honest, the expert didn't say that.

They said that the climb and descent phases of flight are accepted as the riskiest in the flight profile by the entire aviation industry.

The BBC tried to make them say there was a problem with the MAX, the expert quite rightly said two crashes so close together on a new type might be connected but nothing was yet known and it was far too early to say if this was the case or not.

I wonder if the "CAA" will take the same stringent ban on this type of aircraft, ban them from flying over the UK.( Think Not)

Doubt it, the Chinese action is clearly just opportunism in their trade war with Trump.

Boeing Max 8 planes banned from UK airspace. A spokesperson for the UK Civil Aviation Authority said: "Our thoughts go out to everyone affected by the tragic incident in Ethiopia on Sunday.

So glad they did that. Can you imagine the horror of going on a TUi holiday flight on one of those craft, and someone says "everything will be just fine" (not)

I'm not surprised that a non aviation enthusiast got this wrong, I gave up years ago trying to keep up with the changes in nomenclature of aircraft as they got older. To me a 737 is just that, a 737, and the DC-9 variants were always DC-9s (not that there are many of those left anyway!).

Icelandair and Norwegian both announced a suspension of 737 MAX8 operations ahead of an EASA grounding.

of cause they would, if Boeing are saying they are developing a software update then clearly there is an issue, somewhere with the aircraft.

If the reports on the BBC & ITV news are accurate, the FAA have effectively said 'They're safe to fly because there's a software update which won't be available for another month or so'
You'd have thought the FAA would be above protectionism, but it would appear not.

Edited to add....
According to the BBC, the EASA are also saying they're still safe to fly.

EASA have now banned the Max 8.
As has India.

And despite increasing calls to do so, the FAA still won't.

I wonder if the airline staff will in effect force the situation by 'going sick' if they are scheduled to work a flight operating a Max 8.

Not sure the FAA want to be seen essentially banning a NEW American built Aircraft from flying in US airspace.

After all, a lot have been built, and 'only' 2 have crashed in (forgive the wording) interesting and possibly linked circumstances.

so for the sake of America's might, face andjobs, the risk is smaller than the gains unless something happens........a roll of the dice perhaps?
