Lakenheath/Mildenhall photography advice

Post by JJC »

I’ve arranged a few last minute days down in Norfolk early next week, and naturally want to visit both bases.

How easy is photography? Any and all advice/suggestions welcomed.

I’ve see there’s a viewing area at LN, but the fences look high and the land around it seems to be off limits to the public?

Cheers

The Lakenheath viewing area is backlit until late in the day. Better off going to the forest entrance on the A1065.

There are good spots at both ends at Mildenhall - John's field off of Pollards Lane at the western end, or the mound at the other end.

Though true that Lakenheath's viewing area is backlit until mid/late afternoon, if it's a cloudy day, it can still be good for runway 24 departures if you walk down the lane a bit, as the background is trees, which provides some contrast in dull conditions. Also the aircraft are stationary for a short time which allows shooting through the fence.

Norfolk, which is the neighbouring county to Suffolk.

Depending on where in the UK the original poster lives, parts of Norfolk could be a lot closer to Lakenheath / Mildenhall

We’re staying in Norfolk, evidently near to the border with Suffolk.

I never said Lakenheath/Mildenhall were in Norfolk, did I...
