Interesting!

For those interested, XE688 was previously allocated to a Hunter F.4, written off in 1957.

I really shouldn't, but I quite like that! Almost a throwback to old RAE schemes of the '60s-mid '70s..

Aah, it's an ex Chile AF T72 and it gained this scheme when it became an Embraer chase plane. How bizarre to allocate a serial from the late '50s!!

XE688 is a historic serial associated with this aircraft.

This aircraft was actually F.4 XE704 (construction number HABL 003035) however for some reason the factory plate located in the nose gear bay is for ex-Chilean J-736 which had a construction number of HABL 003031 - this aircraft in the UK was also an F.4 and allocated the serial XE688.

Records show XE688 was written off in 1957 however the factory plate has found its way on to this aircraft - it is thought the front fuselage/nose section of the original XE688 was used to convert the aircraft into a T.72 and the data plates were never changed.

Therefore, according to the dataplate, this aircraft is XE688 :-)

Will the wheelbarrow be the pre production development machine, or one that saw active service on Gardeners Question Time?

Once this flies, it'll increase the number of flying Hunters based in the UK by 50%, to 3.
That is pretty much it (Dutch-based F.6A G-KAXF not being considered) and is likely to remain like this, with the grounding of all Avon 100-series Hunters. :(
