Heathrow Expansion??

Post by tankbuster »

I assume with Gatwick likely to have hundreds of free slots coming up, the case for Heathrow expansion will have a lot more difficulty moving forward. That will probably mean no movement for five years by which time costs will have escalated and planning will have to go back to square 1. As an aside I wonder what impact the pandemic will have on HS2 if any.

Will it be used for parking all the airliners withdrawn from service across the world?

Highly unlikely.

Will be a while until the bulldozers start rolling in. It’s predicted to be 2028 for completion.

Increased capacity to a 130 million passengers a year which will make it the worlds busiest airport.

Nah, there's loads of provincial airports they can dump their fleets on.

The Chinese certainly need a bigger Cargo-hub for their larger future exports of hideous viruses?
Given the current passenger projections for LHR going forward, it's currently hard to imagine how a third runway operational by 2028 can be justified. :astonished:

Imagine the Stress of the people living where this is going to be located. The boss of LHR is certainly not living there.

If climate change is to be taken seriously then air travel is something that needs to be curtailed, Especially air Cargo and new runways should not be needed

Considering the size of the new Chinese embassy planned for London a bigger people-hub is also needed.

The 2028 prediction was based on the original start dates, which have long since passed into history, due to the legal actions. There is not a hope in hell of it being completed by 2028, even if they started digging tomorrow...which they couldn't do, as they haven't even started the scheme design yet.
Plus Covid effect has put a serious brake on finances of HAL, so while they will be keeping it on the back burner, I have my doubt's that it will ever now be built.
I think they are now more likely to finish T2 and the rest of central area now before 3rd runway.

The sensible ones took the BAA money and ran years ago.......

Only a few have stuck it out in the hope for more money.
