Aircraft music?
Aircraft music?
On a somewhat lighter topic, in the Daily Wail today on their Answers to Correspondence page someone is asking, other than Spitfire Prelude what other pieces of music are there that specifically mention the name of a plane?
I can think of these, anyone got any more?
Spitfire by Public Service Broadcasting
Enola Gay by OMD
Nimrod by Edward Elgar
Me262 by Blue Oyster Cult
Aces High by Iron Maiden (mentions Spitfire and Me109)
Calling America by ELO (mentions 747)
Albatross by Fleetwood Mac
Over to you....

Re: Aircraft music?
I think Nimrod is tenuous.
It mentions a mythical figure that a later aeroplane was named after, but not a plane itself, per se.

Re: Aircraft music?
Jet Airliner by Steve Miller Band mentions a Boeing 707.
Hurricane by Bob Dylan isn't about the legendary Hawker WW2 fighter, sadly.

Re: Aircraft music?
A 707 plays a major role in Early Morning Rain by Gordon Lightfoot whilst a 737 gets a lesser mention in Travellin Band by Creedence Clearwater Revival
Re: Aircraft music?
And both equally excellent Promised Land by Chuck Berry and Big Bird by Eddie Floyd are heavily aircraft related whilst not actually mentioning any specific aircraft types
Re: Aircraft music?
Flying Doctor by Hawklords (Hawkwind) mentions a Percival Proctor.
Also love Captain Lockheed and the Starfighters - a great rock album with some Pythonesque humour thrown in.
I am currently listening to Bomber by Motorhead which has a Heinkel 111 on the cover.
Black Sabbath Never Say Die has a Harvard on the cover.

Re: Aircraft music?
The Royal Guardsman (who with a name like that naturally came from Florida) did manage to at least get a real life avaiator into not one but two songs with ”Snoopy vs the Red Baron” and the follow up that no one has ever heard “the return of the Red Baron”.
They obviously thought they were onto something as they also recorded “airplane my airplane” and “Sopwith Camel”on the obligatory ‘let’s cash in while we can’ album that followed. They weren’t.

Re: Aircraft music?
Nice idea for a thread!
A few Pink Floyd related ones:
Pink Floyd - Money (Learjet), In the Flesh? and Learning to Fly
Roger Waters - Late Home Tonight (F-111)
There's also The Beatles - Back in the USSR which begins with the sound of a jet.
For anyone interested my band also recorded a song about the SR-71:
