Manchester airport development

Post by DerekF »

I wasn't sure where to post this but I thought here was as good a place as any.
I collect OS maps and for fun I scanned the area around Manchester airport and cropped them so they covered the same area. The maps date from 1920 and how the airport has grown over the years.

One day 05R might reach Wrexham!

Interesting to see the march of expansion over time...

Interesting.. Where do you get the old maps from ?

I tend to use the ones from National library of Scotland when i want to kill some time looking at how places have developed.

Link for anyone wanting to kill 20 mins... or a couple of days : https://maps.nls.uk/os/6inch-england-and-wales/

Always interesting to see things like this. I use Google Earth for the same reason, as being able to shrink time and see how airfields change is something quite fascinating....
