Certainly looks like a decent line up. As always would be improved by some modern military, but time will tell.

I always link September with the old "Battle of Britain" at home days which were, obviously, packed with modern military.

But... if you want to play that game which of the following flew in the Battle of Britain!? ;-)

Spitfire V, VIII, IX, PRXI, XIV
Yak-3
Mustang
Bearcat
Wildcat
Hawk 75
Hawker Nimrod
Corsair
B-17

Anyway... fingers crossed for some fast jets...

The show commemorates the Battle of Britain, its not a re-enactment event. Therefore any participants who wish to join in to commemorate it are more than welcome, especially the modern day Royal Air Force.

2018 was superbly well done, it would be great to see the RAF take part once again. Admittedly they made a special effort that year because of the centenary, but my point still stands.

Booked my ticket today on the strength of that initial announcement. A bit expensive but I do enjoy this show as it really plays to Duxford's strengths. While I love fast jets, sometimes it is nice to see a show that really focusses on warbirds and presents them well. I think the last couple of Duxford BoB shows have done that so I'm happy to spend my money here rather than their more generic summer show that doesn't really have much more than the seaside displays. I'm hoping to see more participants of a similar vein announced over the next couple of months.

I will be surprised if many of the usual traders will be at Duxford's BOB show. We were long time traders there and spoke to a few at Capel Military Show last week and a lot of the regulars have abandoned Duxford because of the regime in place now. Aces High Gallery, Aces High Collectibles, The Bookshop, 4M Events, are not going as far as I know. Duxford does not think we are of any importance at a show. the public seem to welcome traders and we had lots of regulars. As it's now a 'family' show, our goods are not appreciated by the public. So hope you all want fluffy bunnies and prints, can't see there will be much else.

Its an impressive line-up of warbirds, particularly considering what a busy weekend it is with some big events across the UK and Northern Europe.

I can't see there being much more participation involving the RAF, they have already committed to the returning Northern Ireland Airshow and the Royal Navy are at Sanicole.

I'm curious, are you suggesting that the public genuinely don't appreciate your trade because the demographic of the show has changed? Or are you suggesting that the organisation at Duxford have TOLD you you're not appreciated by the public and are therefore not welcome?

Anyway, the line-up is tremendous so far!

You can always try us if you wish at Abingdon for our annual airshow / country show on Sat 10th Sept, we are still accepting traders.

Hi G CVIX! Duxford wants to attract families more than anything to the airshows. They would not appreciate specialist aviation books, obscure aircraft models (pricey sometimes) Oddball aviation related items and other related items. We were at their last show 2021 and it was mainly families who did not know one end from the other, our goods were way over their heads most of the time, very few enthusiasts were there.
We were told they wanted to dispense with traders (or as it seems pick and choose corporate type traders) We spoke to some at Capel Military show, all regulars for years who applied for a space recently and were ignored.
A few years ago we and a few other traders were removed from the Historic Zone and moved to past the American Air Space, as we did not 'fit' their idea of what they wanted as traders. although us and ones moved still outsold the ones left on their original pitches (some of the other bigger traders had a hand in our removal from what we heard)! We could change our goods to appeal to the public that does attend now, but not paying nearly £400 for a space in the Market Place to sell kids toys, we can do that at smaller, cheaper shows.
Duxford also once said they did not like traders setting up early as they did not want them in the museum? Can't think what they thought we were up to? Apart from buying food/drinks in cafe, using loo's (we are house trained). We used to book Duxford shows, loved Legends best of all! and booked other shows around them. One of my relatives sponsored the American Air Space (Canadian), I saw his name recently on the sponsor list inside, so it's doubly gutting for me.

Duxford won’t be getting a single penny from me again, not unless something drastic changes. Last good show I can recall there was in May 2017.

Edit: Daks over Normandy was the last good one. But that wasn’t run by Duxford.

Excellent venue, run by completely out of touch morons.

Sounds like enthusiasts are the next target, and I wish I was being humorous!

Duxford and Hendon have already made it known that their target audience are now families and enthusiasts are bottom of the list. If any one thinks they can do better at running the IWM then there is a job vacancy coming up as Diane Lees, Director-General of the Imperial War Museum, is standing down in March next year.

I don't wish to run off topic but this strikes me as extremely short-sighted. Not only is the enthusiast community the most likely source of funds for individual campaigns (this may be more for the small organisation) but as a parallel with twitchers in the birding community, enthusiasts are always out there as ambassadors for the museums and events, spreading by word of mouth in the places mere advertising cannot reach. The disadvantage of the internet in that sense is that there is so much content that spotting the jewels among less savoury stuff (plus the attention span thing) is unlikely/difficult.

The ultimate aim - continuation of the preserved icons - ought to mean all sections of the community working together , because if it doesn't hang together all will surely hang separately.

Seems strange to me that these family events can charge such high prices and still find an audience. The price is too much for me to consider attending and I am only buying one ticket. Family usually means at least two adults and their children. Even if children are free, or discounted the small print usually states an age limit so most teenagers have to pay full price. Must be a very expensive day out and I expect they might only do it once.

I will apologise for repeating the thread drift but it has been said both Duxford and Hendon are now family focused and have less interest in the enthusiast. I would like to remind you all that one person who had worked at both these places is now in charge at Old Warden and is slowly, by stealth and the cover of COVID, introducing the same "family focus"

I thought about the cost for families at Duxford also £45 each adult plus £5 parking. Not sure if kids are free. The foods expensive there now in the cafe's and food stalls. So most will take cool boxes/sandwiches? Why go there for a day out when you can go to another proper child friendly venue that's cheaper entry and caters more for families, food wise. Biggin Hill managed to combine families/enthusiasts at their big air show years ago. Maybe they can dumb down the aircraft offering to the public and save money? But losing it in the long run as ticket sales on the last show were dismal and trade and food stalls sparse. Why did they change something that was winning combination with everyone?
