Lugo di Romagna, Italy 27-05-2022

Post by andygolfer »

I've just returned from a week in Italy visiting my daughter and family and managed one airfield visit during my time there, Lugo di Romagna a few miles north east of Imola (my daughter lives in the hills above Imola within sight and sound of the race circuit) which is named after Italy's leading fighter ace from WW1 Count Francesco Baracca.
As well as the club / school aircraft there are 2 preserved ex Italian air force aircraft a Fiat G91 and a Lockheed F.104, here are some pics of both...

and here's the airfield badge, the prancing horse may look familiar to motor racing / classic car fans, the horse adorned Baracca's aircraft and inspired Enzo Ferrari to adopt it as the logo of the Ferrari company (here endeth today's history lesson!)

And today's nerdie fact is the Baracca horse's tail points down and the Ferrari horse the tail is up.
Nice photos, really need to get back to Italy, big country lots to see.
100th anniversary of air force next year should be a show at Practica de Mare ?
