Another update.

Carl Barat of Libertines fame and his band on stage at the Albert Hall in Manchester. One of the best music venues around.

A wee update.
Firstly a gig from a few weeks ago. For all old punks.

Both in support of Stiff Little Fingers. I first saw them in 1981 at Dundee Caird Hall, than again at the SECC in Glasgow supporting the Sex Pistols in 1996. Sounding better than ever.

Then a couple of nights ago at the Albert Hall in Manchester the superb Goldfrapp. A truly fantastic experience.

It was the first outing for my new Sony HX-99 The 30x zoom is very handy but the lighting was a bit on the dim side. Still learning.

Can recommend Goldfrapp...first band I took the memsahib to see at Shepherds Bush Empire in 2001.Up until Covid we used to see them at least once a year after that first gig.

Good stuff Derek.

Getting back into things now - it was Eivor a few weeks ago - stunning show - what an amazing voice.

Last week Bryan Adams - now not really my thing but you know you have to oblige every so often. Anyway - much to my surprise it was a great gig. Nearly two hours , 26 songs, highly professional -
if you like music in general you could not fail to have been impressed by the concert even if you don't listen to him outside of the concert.

Next up:
P-Floyd - have ticket
decided not to go to Macy Gray
still thinking about Jeff Beck and a Saucerful of Secrets (in Oslo it's a bit of a trek)
Rival Sons probably
Neal Morse possible
Steve Vai probable
Robert Cray possible
Queen - have ticket
Iron Maiden - have ticket
Rammstein - have ticket
Deep Purple - have ticket

Ah BAd - seen him 5 or 6 times now, going back to the mid 90s. You can't knock his ability to write a tune. he knows what works and he sticks to it!

Performances are always great too.

Another week, another concert. Last night we went to the fantastic Bridgewater Hall in Manchester to see Spiritualized. I've waited years to see them and to experience their music in such a venue was a great experience. Not much in the way of witty banter between tunes but just shy of two hours of awesome music more that made up for that.

A buy week for gigs.
Firstly on Tuesday the 31st at the Albert Hall Manchester. Australian punk band Amyl and the Sniffers. A high energy set and a very scary mosh-pit at a sold-out Albert Hall.

Friday night saw us at the O2 Ritz for the Lovely Eggs. Top gig from a proper independent band. Lots pf noise for a band of just two.

An update and the last for a while. No gigs until September now.

Last Monday, the 20th June, an evening with Nine Inch Nails at the Manchester Apollo. A visual and aural experience unlike any other. Awesome.
Imagezz20220620_211045 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr

Then on Saturday, a trip to the John Smith Stadium in Huddersfield for the much delayed HellaMega tour. Tickets were bought in September 2019...
A great day out, the bands were excellent, the lighting and sound were good too for a stadium but the stadium organization itself was frankly dreadful. Long queues, poor instructions, lack of toilets, poor food provision, misleading emails and dangerous exits. It may good for 24000 seated at a football match but not for a concert. Anyway, some photos. We were seated quite far away but it wasn't too much of a problem. The rules stated no cameras so it was only my phone for these. Annoyingly the list at the gate said no "professional" cameras and I wasn't searched anyway but never mind...

Amyl and the Sniffers started at about 5pm in lovely sunshine (then torrential rain)
Imagezz20220625_172407 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr

They were followed by an excellent set from Weezer.
Imagezz20220625_175802 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr

After that came Fall Out Boy. I've haven't been a fan but I was pleasantly surprised by them.
Imagezz20220625_192453 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr

Then Green Day. Great entertainment and certainly know how to play a stadium.

Thanks for pics Derek good to see. I guess some events are cutting back on the 'essentials' to save money. I have only taken video at my last few concerts so no pics - Jeff Beck at RAH, who was great but not so great with Johnny Depp added for almost half of it. Rival Sons were however really good and in a small venue, Pustervik in Gothenburg, even better.

Agree on all your points re: the Hella Mega Tour in Huddersfield.

All 4 bands excellent from start to finish. However, we had pitch standing tickets and the organisation and safety of the crowd was pitiful. We were funnelled into an entrance that felt like it was no more than 10ft wide, after being packed into an ever narrowing pen whilst queueing. I'm usually ok in places / situations like that, but even I felt a little claustrophobic. I couldn't help but feel like we were 1 person panicking away from a very dangerous crush. Also, all food / toilet facilities were outside of the stadium, so we endured the same thing 3 times over the course of the afternoon / evening whilst going out and back in again. I'll definitely avoid the John Smith's Stadium as a live music venue in the future.
