E7 Wedgetail Colour Scheme
Just a tangent to RIAT threads.
Today is a good day to bury news.

RAF E7 Wedgetail colour scheme announced.
I had a search couldn’t see it posted anywhere else on here.
Lovely Raspberry Ripple Dazzle paint scheme. Or maybe it’s grey.

Re: E7 Wedgetail Colour Scheme
Surely it's the serials which are the talking point here...?
Last time they allocated 'W-' serials, it was for Vickers Valiants, and DH Venoms!!

Re: E7 Wedgetail Colour Scheme
Is it just a case of an artistic rendering of the aircraft and the artist, not having the allocated ZZ number, just making up WT001?...
Underneath my gruff exterior lies an even gruffer interior...
Re: E7 Wedgetail Colour Scheme
Indeed, I'd have guessed at ZE701 - 703 (to follow the P-8 examples), but 701/2 were previously allocated to BAe146s. ZE725-27 are free, though.
Nevertheless, some on other forums seem to think that WT001-3 are the real deal.

Re: E7 Wedgetail Colour Scheme
Not being an expert on RAF serial number system has there ever been a serial range that started with a 001?
All the previous number allocations seem to start 100 or higher. I hardly think the MoD will change the format used for decades. And I doubt the three aircraft will use up the current system.
Or maybe someone from the DoT/DVLA has transferred in and decided to implement a UK Car Registration style revamp?...

Re: E7 Wedgetail Colour Scheme
Some of the Hawks and Typhoons nowadays start with a '0'
Re: E7 Wedgetail Colour Scheme
Isn’t WT001 just for the picture, (if they haven’t got the serial to hand). WT=Wedge Tail.
Re: E7 Wedgetail Colour Scheme
ZK001 to ZK004 are Merlins, that sequence then continued with a Grob Vigilant and a few other things until ZK010, the start of the RAF Hawk T2 allocation.
Recently serial number allocations have been done for vanity, think about the 32 Squadron AW109 - GZ100, Lightning IIs starting at ZM135 to match the first Lightning XM135, P-8s starting at ZP801, etc etc.
Re: E7 Wedgetail Colour Scheme
You thought you were joking, didn't you...?
P-8.... ZP801 etc
A400M... ZM400 etc
A300... ZZ300 etc
C-17... ZZ171 etc
...And of course, the ZZ block is out of sequence any way, as they haven't even started ZL, ZN, ZS, ZV, ZW, or ZX yet....

Re: E7 Wedgetail Colour Scheme
Oh perhaps the biggest example that WT001 might well be correct is the Watchkeepers, that start at WK001!

Yep, that's what my brain was trying to tell my typing finger! Six days at Totterdown /RIAT seems to have fried my circuits...!
