Little Gransden 28/08/22

Post by 5944 »

A pretty good lineup. The Miles Gemini display last year was a definite highlight. YAK 11 G-OYAK has also been advertised on Facebook, though it's not on the website yet. Always good to see BM597 and a couple of Hurricanes too. Just hope the weather is better than last year!

This was posted on Facebook earlier.

Miss Helen is returning to Little Gransden to celebrate 30 years of this fantastic show.
We are looking to see if any photographers would be interested in a sunset-night shoot which would take place the day before the show.
There will be various aircraft available but would like to see the interest before we make any commitments.

If you are interested please email: info@littlegransdenairshow.co.uk

only 2 weeks to go, that's a year gone past very quickly. It's a show I always enjoy.

Here's the website list of participants at present: https://www.littlegransdenairshow.co.uk ... e-up-2022/

That's quite a coup!

Navy Wings Seafire added for flying and their Stinson Reliant on static.

I'm thinking the same. Little & Large was fine and the Yak 3 wasn't too bad, but the others have been very high and distant. (I've got a 600mm lens on a crop body, and I'm struggling a bit!)

Edit - Miles Gemini showing how it's supposed to be done. Very tight and close display

It seems to be a common theme these days wherever you go - warbirds displaying up near the moon. Shuttleworth is the same, I've never got a decent shot of their Spitfire as it's always so far away. Just a couple of low passes would be nice!

Aurora was good to see, though I wasn't expecting it to come in from the direction it did so I cocked up the first few shots!

A tiny bit more than the single pass by the CP-140 would've been welcomed. Otherwise, a pleasant little event.

It would've been nice, or even to come in from the other way. But I strongly suspect it was that or nothing, so I'll take it.

Would be interested to hear how they (organisers) managed to pull off getting the Aurora to attend. Assume it was transiting between bases.

Agree, the Miles display was fantastic. I had a thoroughly great afternoon.

Enjoyed the day despite a couple of displays feeling distant I can’t say I was a fan of the commentary either

It has been on exercise at RAF Lossiemouth - it positioned to Mildenhall on Friday and went straight home (well, probably still flying home as I type) after the flypast today.

It came across from Canada on Friday via a quick stop at Lossiemouth. The one at Lossiemouth is broken apparently.

Decent show today, however some big variations in display distances and heights. For the second year in a row the Miles Gemini was a standout for me, love that display. CP-140 nice to see but brief, few unannounced visitors best display ive seen from the yak 3 starting to coming closer and lower. Global stars put on a really tidy display I though, something abit different from the usual.

Anymore than one pass is classed as a display, and as the Pilot didn`t have an English DA , one pass is all that we could have, It also over flew a Canadian crash site from WW2 on it`s way home so had to come in from that direction.

To all the other`s
Display height`s and distances are governed by the speed of the aircraft`s display, so the Gemini was a lot slower so closer to the crowd line than say the Yak3, all these distances and heights can be seen by reading the CAA CAP 403 document .

Navy Wings Seafire was tech and was replaced in the display by the Stinson.

Well if that’s what warbird displays are going to be like that airshows dead for me. Watching the spitfire felt like I was in a naughty field rather than the paying public

Agree that the T6 and Mk5 Spitfire in particular were high and distant. I think it's partly down to each pilot's style of display as much as regulations. Also agree that this type of display leaves a spectator feeling uninvolved and underwhelmed. Oh well.

G-ANPK, thank you.
Hopefully the crowd level of this year will bode well for a show next year!

The reason people used 'naughtly fields' in the first place was because they actually put you closer to the action...

Isn't there also an element that pilots need to obtain authorisation to fly lower, which is why the likes of John Romain and Mark Jefferies are allowed to hoon it in low level?

Wacky Wabbit is always a high display
