Not much of a display on offer this year it would seem.

Sadly I have to agree with the other sentiments in this thread.

It's my second-nearest show (after Farnborough) and I like attending because of the relaxed and friendly atmosphere, however I feel it is missing one or two star items that make it a must-attend, especially as there's no Vulcan this year.

Fingers crossed they have something up their sleeves that they can announce in the next week or two.

Still, better a lacklustre line-up than nothing at all, given that there have been repeated attempts to demolish the airfield and cover the site with housing.

For me the combination of a pretty starry line up in the air together with the wheels on the ground and a great commentary pairing made it unmissable for several years.

Excellent additions there.

I enjoy Dunsfold and have only missed one of the last 8 years.

Have never missed Dunsfold, even though it is a long way from Newcastle Upon Tyne. I think it is missing the OFMC Spitfire/Mustang duo and the Fury from North Weald with the Hawker Theme.

Second that. The OFMC pair always seem to put on a great display at Dunsfold, even in the pouring rain and murk at the end of last years display. Hopefully they'll be added.

Off topic I know but does anyone have a date for the first airshow at Dunsfold? I know it existed long before Wings and Wheels started in (?) 2005 because I used to enjoy watching the flying from my parents' back garden (SallyB on her run in to display :-o) so we must be going back to the mid to late 90s at least, but anyone know when they started?

I've looked on the interweb (on rubbish phone mind!) but it's let me down again!

Cheers

BAE Systems/British Aerospace used to hold "Air Days" prior to Wings and Wheels, usually sharing with Biggin Hill. These were families days, but were open to the public.

Wings and Wheels started in 2004.

Going back to 'families days', I have the details of the participants from 1984-1999.
98's flying display was cancelled due to a fatal Hunter crash during rehearsals.
This is the list from 1987;
2 x Fourniers-Multipart Duo
Tornado-Bae
4 x Gazelle-RN Sharks
5 x Sea Harriers-RN Airfield Attack
Sea Harrier-RN Solo Display
Pitts Special
Bae 146
Dornier 228-G-OMAF
Tornado-RAF
Vulcan-RAF
F-16-USAF
Firefly-RN Historic Flight
Gnat-G-GNAT
Mustang
DC-10-Cal Air flypast
PC-9-HB-HPA
Bae125-G-BMYX
2 x GR5 Harrier-Bae
Hawk-Bae
Hawk 200-Bae

Not bad for £5!!!

The DC-3 appeared as confirmed on flightline over the weekend before the Sea Vixen Cancelled. Hopefully that means a replacement (one's you suggest would be great) will be forthcoming.
