Thinking of going to this for the first time, reasonable price to. Worth it to see a lightning or buccaneer running

Getting to see a Lightning and Buccaneer was the reason I went to my first show back in 2015, told my Dad I was taking him out but he had no idea where or what it involved so you can imagine his surprise when before us were Lightning’s, Victor, VC-10 etc

Needless to say a fantastic day out followed

Has there ever been a flying display alongside the CWJs day at Bruntingthorpe? are there restrictions to flying displays at the venue?

Was there not an airshow there as part of the 'on your marks event' at Bruntingthorpe in 2016?

Was just thinking if they combined the CWJs fast taxi run day with a full airshow that would be great!

i remember they did one i attended at Brunti, with 558, victor, buc, lightning etc.

the airhsow element was fantastis too, and i remember the months leading up to the show they were advertising the russian knights ang the grumov Su27 flankers.
turning up on the day and not knowing was half the fun, and we got tornado display, herc tac dem (remember them?) and all sorts.
no knights though, but mid way through late morning a sound in the sky heralded Anatoly rocking up in his su27, into a display and landed, then his oppo rocked up in his Su27 and later on they did their full dual display.......at Bruntingthorpe. How cool was that?

I also remember no fences around the BBMF, so they were touchable, and fired up the lanc as i stood looking into the fuselage through the access side door.

Oh my, i'm getting nostalgic again.

There were 3

Stevie has just posted this in the Scampton thread.

Bruntingthorpe held three major full blown airshows in 1993,94 & 95 called the 'Big Thunder Airshow' & a smaller low-key event called 'Rolling Thunder' in 96 with a few flying items but mainly featuring fast runs from the Museum aircraft.

Think the ripple was operated for a couple of seasons before concentrating on WK163. The original ripple was scrapped IIRC.

As an aside I can remember walking past the su27 parked up and not even photographing it as it was so common at the time

Was just thinking the same thing. Been looking at some videos and it looks quite busy along the line. Was wondering what size lens also because you look quite close to the action

I've not been before and really 50/50 vs. Dunsfold

However if I went to Brunty, it'd be good to know whether there is plenty of space to get good enough views for images and exactly your point, what lens. Looks like a 70-200 might be enough?

Anyone who has attended perhaps can chip in here - thank you

You're close enough that a side on Lightning will nearly fill the frame at 70mm on a full frame sensor, if you're using an APS-C crop sensor that's equivalent to about 44mm. For the larger stuff like the VC-10 and Victor you'll want as wide a lens as possible!

I take a ladder and stand at the back of the crowd line and it’s never a problem doing it that way

Thank you,
I have one of those small platform things, probably about 2 rungs high (like this - https://www.diy.com/departments/work-pl ... 393_BQ.prd) I'm 6ft anyway but I guess keeping behind those that are standing only (without ladders) as not to p!55 anyone off that this would help and probably be enough to see above them?

Yes that’s exactly what I do. I just keep out the crowd and you see over people comfortably. It helps that I’m over 6ft

There’s also a mound that runs along the eastern end of the airfield which is popular for viewing. I’ve always found the crowd line a bun fight there.

Not if the event is held down at the Gilmorton end, which I believe is the plan?
