Presumably. Iirc in 2012 they shipped to Manchester on 747s, and then used Leeming as a base. Given Leeming’s use by the Qataris, perhaps they will go elsewhere.

Differently to 2012, some press also report that three RoKAF C-130s will travel to Europe to act as support (presumably spares and crew) whilst they’re over here.

i might get shot down for this, but i think a lot of people have developed unrealistic expectations for this years show.

we had such great displays in '17 for the USAF 70th, and a great show in '18 for RAF 100, we have become spoilt.

after having 2 years off with covid it feels like people were expecting all the air forces to have their jets lined up at the end of the runway ready to attend this year, when the reality is like all years it is down operational requirements etc.

yes its trainer heavy, but i for one am looking forward to seeing items like the hinds, the 2 ship QRA display etc and lets not forget the Americans haven't announced yet and quite often leave it late.

there is still time and no doubt DBH have more up their sleeve, but simply if it doesn't float your boat, don't go

Think Waddington may be a good shout for this. Be with the Reds & use Scampton air space to practice?

They are saying they are flying all 3 days and the only place in the UK, you will get their full show. It is shaping up nicely, I think we have not seen the majority of flying announced, as this may comprise a lot of the American fliers. At least I can hope!

For the Black Eagles being shipped into the UK nothing booked in as yet for a Manchester arrival. Someone has said they could be transport in on the C130's, I don't know if that would be possible.

One of the most varied and interesting lineups in quite a while.

A sizeable portion of the flying is totally new to me - which is certainly something I can’t say every year.

Fast jets aren’t everything, as much as they are a staple and it wouldn’t be RIAT without a sizeable contingent of them. Variety is the spice of life, and some of the rarer trainers and helos are really the cherry on top of a very tasty cake.

Coincidentally, I’ve just booked my tickets for Fri / Sat / Sun. Can’t wait!

How how much notice do people get of civvi bookings for that sort of thing?

Can I ask the obvious question - why would they not fly into and be based at Fairford?

Not an unreasonable question, but I presume the detritus needed for proper reassembly and maintenance of eight aircraft (and/or spares?) plus spare parts, personnel etc might mean that Fairford is just too crowded to hold them for the time they’re here.

I imagine that it’s a massive logistical undertaking.

As for why don’t they just fly here - I guess the massive resources needed to drag right fighters half way across the world (plus spares and crew and maintenance personnel) is probably just as expensive but also riskier than just air freighting them over.

I wouldn't fancy flying one here.

It was a massive undertaking for an Aussie Vark flying in stages through Malaysia, Japan, Hawaii, West coast USA, East Coast USA, Iceland, UK and they have huge range.

Military jet going west from South Korea is pretty much out, so freight is really the only option.

When the Japanese T-4s went to Nellis in 1997 they went freight by ship!

Very happy with the Black Eagles. For me the show had some very nice additions but needed a star attraction and now has that.

They were excellent in 2012 but the weather was naff, hopefully it will be alot more accommodating this year.

The RAFAT flew to Australia in stages didn't they? With displays along the way. Mid 1990's or something wasn't it?

I presume that would be the only feasible way of doing it. With a range of 1800km or so it would be 5 stops at least, and presumably several more.

Additionally, the Silver Swallows, displaying at RIAT for the first time in 25 years (albeit on different aircraft) and likely a one-off as they've only formed for the anniversary year as far as I can tell.

The Irish PC9 4 ship display is actually quite common in Ireland, it's at Bray every year, Shannon/Foynes before it ended and have diplayed a number of times in Newcastle, Northern Ireland. Though the name was 'Team Silver'

Very rare outside of the island of Ireland, but display and do flypasts quite a bit. I've seen them too many times for them to be a one off. 2019 at Bray was their last full display though due to Covid.

Fantastic news about the Korean Black Eagles, I've long wanted to see thme :) Great job DBH and RAF on getting what is sure to be a stand out display.

Probably a bit friendlier reception then going west to east using the land bridge where possible if required.

Black Eagles have added some new parts to their display and revamped others. 'Tornado Landing' looks amazing.

Agree. Blue sky please... or should that be in the wish list?

So outlandish that we might have to make a separate “dream list” for that one 🙈

I think it is the name 'Silver Swallows' that has been brought back for the Irish Air Corps 100th Anniversary. They always were 'Team Silver' when I saw them.
