RIAT 2023 Discuss everything thread

Post by aviodromefriend »

14th, 15th and 16th of July.

So probably the French will not arrive before Friday (if at all) due to some flying over a main street in a less important place than RAF Fairford, or they will leave from Fairford like the Thunderbirds did in 2017.

Operational theme not made public yet as far as I know, but I think Peter is already aware of what it will be. Normally it will be announced in the souvenir program of this year's show, but that is not for sale yet.

Somebody will ask when the German Mig-29s arrive.

I will keep wishing for Phantoms.

There will be weather.

Why is there a 2023 thread before the 2022 show has started?

2023 thread just started today, not sure when the original one of 2022 started, it fell victim of UKAR's very own back-upgate. If you want, you can start one for 2024 and later years.

Because first news about '23 normally breaks during the '22 show, so there is a place already to keep everybody informed.

Think of it as an early placeholder. I like to keep on top of these things and will be doing the list for 2023 just like I did for this years :)
Better to have it early on the 1st page close to the top where everyone can see. And yes, this is my extreme OCD lol.

Ok so we have a riat 2023 thread up so may i make a request for a theme for the show and the is air tanker. As i feel a tanker/transport theme is well over due i can't remember when the last one was and i feel the tanker/transport aircraft are the unsung heroes.

A tanker theme was there (or not...) in 2008. The last one that took place was in '95. A transport theme was there during the Cottesmore years, don't remember if it was done again after that.

For someone whos never been to RIAT before and interested in going next year - Would you say getting a ticket for one of the areas that have these grandstands a must or can you still mostly enjoy the show by standing/using your own camping chairs? Would be taking a camera to get some photos of the displays but not to bothered about touchdowns/takeoff shots if these aren't possible without a grandstand seat.

Also - When would tickets normally open for those type of areas like Viewing village etc? I can see the have the super early tickets open now for your normal admission.

Any advice would be hugely appreciated!
