Tiger Meet 2021

Post by tankbuster »

I contacted Tiger Meet at Beja to say I couldn't attend spotters day because EasyJet have cancelled my flights. Polite response to thank me for letting them know and telling me that the 2021 meet will proceed as planned.

According to this Portugese news website, the planned/rearranged public events including the Spotters Day for the 2021 meet have been cancelled due to COVID.

The article is dated today (25th March 2021).

Very sensible! I don't believe there is a sum of money that could convince me to go to Portugal this year, even if the option existed!
I don't think the majority of other countries Worldwide will 100% complete their vaccination process by 2021 year end. :grimacing:

No.

Why would you announce a date at which the conversion to a new type will start for a unit, when you disband that unit before that date?
A weather forecast is a forecast and just that

Because it's common practice in the RAF for the Unit to disband then stand back up on a new type. They're assuming the RNLAF would do the same.

Anyone else had an email about spotter days next month? I really thought they'd canned the Beja bash but obviously not! Very short notice now to arrange anything - I'm not genned up, is there an isolation period in Portugal??

Yes, at least the colouring fits the region if not the Tiger theme!

Big fan of the Portuguese one. Appreciate the efforts of the rest but eh, not quite doing it for me personally.

Boff mentioned that the Luftwaffe one looks similar in palette to the Luftwaffe 60 scheme the EF2000 was wearing at RIAT 2016.

Yeah, nice blue and white checks for Bavaria. I actually quite like it!

Not sure about an isolation period, but if you're in the UK it's illegal to leave the country without a good reason at the moment. Besides, even if it wasn't illegal, current rules say you'd have to take a COVID test 3 days before leaving Portugal, and then quarantine at home for 10 days and take a further two COVID tests - too much faff!

Indeed. Now if they'd move it to July like they were going to last year..

OK not to die for but Tiger meets are the only regular chance these days for us to see and shoot 30-50 modern combat types, some of which aren't just wall to wall grey.. I'dve been there like a shot, especially after the year we've had..

Hopefully K-B! Nice Polish greys scheme, new Swiss tail(s) and the home team have a 50th anniversary special too.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that travel to Belgium will be allowable later this year to enjoy the NTA anniversary meeting at Kleine Brogel and Sanicole.
I suspect the relatively low number of participants in Portugal means more units will be able to attend in September... :smirk:
