La Ferte Alais May 2021

Post by darkman »

Planning on attending this year. Covid permitting
What time does the flying start?
I had planned arriving on Friday and attending both days but easyJet have changed their flight times and I should now arrive Sat morning and after the drive down should be there by 12.30pm
Is this feasible or will I miss much?

Any other tips for first time attendee?

Yes, plan to go in 2022. I can't see us being allowed into France in 4 months time, even if the event goes ahead.

Flying starts just before 1pm so in theory you would be ok but there is a great static display open in the morning which is worth doing and lots of pleasure flights. You could do the static display Sunday morning but seems a long way to go to miss the Saturday morning. I always arrive Friday and leave Monday.

Have booked accommodation for this year but realistically I don't expect to be able to (or possible want to) travel for this year's show.

It's a great show, sun behind, nice display line with tree lined back down. Only criticism is the speakers 10 yards in front of the crowd line that they insist on sticking on posts every 20 yards or so, so you need to pick your spot with panning in mind.

After a quick check on the official AJBS website, the official 2021 dates have not been confirmed yet.
La Ferté airshow has nearly* always occured on Pentecost week-end, but, on these troubled days, who knows ?
Who has expected, I year ago, to watch a live broacast of French tennis Open @ 1:00 in the morning in October ?

* Once, trying to benefit from a nicer weather, they moved it some weeks further in the season (Pentecost can be very early). On Pentecost week-end, weather was OK ... and rainy on the actual airshow week-end !

Decided to bin all airshows this year. Not looking good and too risky to book flights with dates changing

French government has announced that limit for public events will be 5,000 seated people until Summer.
Sounds as bad news for La Ferté, who needs a 30,000 - 40,000 attendance for profit.
