Ursel Avia, 27-28 June 2020

Post by Chrisse »

After the successful 2018 event, the team behind Ursel Avia (Belgium) took 2019 off to come back bigger and stronger in 2020.

This is not a meaningless statement: for the first time in over 20 years, Ursel will host a full-fledged airshow again!

On Friday 26 June, there will be a spottersday to allow enthusiasts to capture the arrival of the bulk of participating aircraft and the rehearsal of the airshow on Sunday.
Saturday will see an open cockpit day aiming to get the aviation-bug started with children by allowing them in the cockpit of several participating aircraft.

Sunday afternoon will be the main event with a full flying display showing a wide range of aircraft, including attention to drones as the airfield is set to become a drone development zone. Highlights in the international flying display so far are a brand-new Belgian T-6, French Yak-3 and Vador with the F-16 solo display. Coming over from the UK will be Team Raven and the PBY-5 Catalina. Rest assured there is more to come!
On the ground, there will also be an extensive static display, including an Utva-3 from France. For full info about participants and themes, I refer you to http://www.urselavia.be

Ursel is a former NATO reserve field and home to two aeroclubs, including Vliegclub Ursel, to which hometeam The Victors belong. It is located near Aalter about halfway between the historic cities Ghent and Bruges, so this weekend could be a nice outing with the family. Special attention will once again go to the link with the RAF and the World War 2 liberation airfield B-67.

Members from this forum who visited the previous Ursel Avia events, praised the relaxed ambiance and the event beer 'Ursels Vliegenierken' (Ursel flyboy) by a local brewery was also quite popular

So, if you are looking for inspiration what to do the final weekend of June, perhaps Ursel Avia is something for you!

Not unexpectedly, due to the ongoing health crisis with covid-19, Ursel Avia has been postponed to 2021.
Stay safe and healthy everyone, we hope to see you at a future show!
