Cleethorpes Armed Forces Weekend Airshow 2018

Post by BossMann »

The Air Show will apparently take place on Sunday of the Armed Forces Weekend - 1st July ( Waddington's old slot) and has been suggested by the organisers "could host one of the country's biggest air displays as Armed Forces Weekend celebrates the RAF's centenary "

http://www.grimsbytelegraph.co.uk/news/ ... rys-898689

"the Sunday will be reserved for an extraordinary celebration of the RAF’s centenary, and Gavin Marshall, member of the Armed Forces Major Events Team, says organisers want to put on a memorable show for the landmark occasion which will proudly honour Lincolnshire’s pivotal role in military aviation history.

He said: “We’re hoping to do a flying display taking in all the major milestones of 100 years of the RAF including the First World War, Second World War, post-war, right up to present day. We’ve applied for the Red Arrows and Typhoons but it’s all still very much in the planning stage."

R5 Air Displays will be responsible for this flying display as listed on their calendar of 2018, http://www.r5airdisplays.co.uk/map-test/

Well, I hope BossMann will be happy that the RAF will indeed be taking part with a Red Arrows display on Sunday 1st July as part of a 7 item flying display. Other acts include the Blades (Saturday), the Catalina, Dakota and hopefully some other warbirds.

Well I was worried that the RAF would do a no show here as there was a clash with the Wales Air Show which has the RAF Tutor and Typhoon already and the National Armed Forces Day event. Its the only Red Arrows display in Lincolnshire after the cancellation/ postponement of the RAF Scampton Airshow.

But after all the PR build up and saying that they had more funding only 7 displays on the Sunday? Blades on Saturday only? not exactly "one of the country's biggest air displays as Armed Forces Weekend celebrates the RAF's centenary ".

So the RAF100 display on Sunday so far:

1. RAF Red Arrows

2. Catalina

3. DC3 Dakota (BBMF?)

From the event's website: http://www.armedforcesnortheastlincolns ... -weeekend/

Armed Forces Weekend – Sun 1 July – Celebration of RAF 100
"1400 to 1800 – Seafront, Flying Display to include Strikemaster, Spitfire, CAP 232, Catalina, Dakota flypast and finishing with The Red Arrows"

5 displays and the RAF BBMF Dakota flypast spaced over 4 hours, they could easily fit everything into 2 hours

You could fit it all into a couple of hours, but its just one part of the day with other things happening on the ground.

Updated times with replacement for Catalina with the Yak3, also looks like the CAP 232 has been replaced by the Extra 330c

Hopefully Cleethorpes can build upon this to have a full days flying display on the Sunday like the other Seafront displays (like weston/ Swansea/ Clacton/ Soutporth/ Eastbourne/ Bournemouth/ Sunderalnd etc...) in the future now that R5 air displays are sorting the flying displays for them!

Pity the RAF can't support it better though...

Saturday 30 June 2018
1300 – BBMF Dakota (flypast)
1415 – The Blades (display)

Sunday 1 July 2018 - RAF 100 display
1315 – BBMF Dakota (flypast)
1400 – Extra 330LC (display)
1445 – Spitfire (display)
1530 – Strikemaster (display)
1605 – Yak-3 (display)
1730 – Red Arrows (display)
