I think having the song 'Thunderstruck' suits any Fast jet display, but that's my opinion. Commentary can be great in the right hands (or voices), but that's another discussion, and thread.

Nowt wrong with a bit of ACDC. :)

agree

The right music combined with the right commentary can elevate a display further.... Examples would be the music that the large international formation teams use: Patrouille de France/ Turkish Stars/ Team Orlik/ Patrouille Suisse/ Brietling Jet Team/ Patrulla Aguila ( RATATATATATATATA!!!) etc.

Some solo jets also music to good effect such as SoloTurk in the past

The Red Arrows don't use music with 'built in' to their display commentary, but I think it could work very well - they had music to their display at the Dutch Air Force Days a few years ago but non since...

It is terrible, quite windy, little bit of drizzle, really hoping the weather clears by the typhoons slot at the very latest... but for now: :cuppa:

The Reds famously got their fingers burned at the Turkish Centenary Show at Izmir back in 2011. After appearing on the Saturday with a strangely lacklustre display, they decided to 'spice it up a little' on the Sunday accompanied by music and probably because many of the other teams and solos did - I remember the sound system they had for that show was more in keeping with a rock concert.

It went wrong from the start. When they took off they played the Dambusters March and the commentator could not remember whether it was that or '633 Squadron'! :oops: Worse was to follow, as bearing in mind that Turkey is a largely Muslim country, after they'd formed up they did their big arrival with 'Jerusalem' blasting out over the whole place - talk about an own goal. The selection of music did improve a bit after then, whilst many of the Brits cowered away in laughter and/or embarrassment! :grin:

Might explain why its taken a while to consider giving it another go.

yes Sunday was a very disappointing day; I did salvage a lovely walk over the cliffs from Birling Gap out of it (and back, which did bring home just how low the cloud was) but I kinda thought it was doomed as I looked down to Eastbourne on the way down from Beachy Head. Not sure if the Strikemaster turned up I was repositioning the car and had sporadic radio reception.

Actually one of the few aircraft that did fly was the one I hadn't seen before from the whole line up (The Belgian 109)

never mind, win some lose some is definitely the name of the game we can do nothing about the weather and safety is paramount; I've enjoyed some spectacular displays over the years at EB and I'll be back;

thanks to everyone at Airbourne 2018 for making it all happen :clap:

Strikemaster made three or four passes, watched via the live feed, in a sunny Southend, cold drink and food on tap!
