Awesome! Making my way up tomorrow afternoon after work. Weather looks to be infinitely better than originally forecast. Can’t wait!

What's the Viggen like sound-wise? Louder than the Typhoon?

Very excited to come down on Saturday, weather is holding up nicely.

The geography is such that you can't get that close or much of a view (at show centre) without paying to go in, and once in you have all the usual stalls and ground entertainments on the beach and prom, cars parked on the beach, and an airfield-show style fence crowd line. The sea is miles away, your view is of flat and open sands. There are no bays, cliffs or other features to mess with separation either. Straight crowd line, straight display axis.

Up until the recent past, lighter fixed wing aircraft have operated off the sands; it hasn't happened for a couple of years, but when it does then it very much adds to the effect of being on an airfield with a different substrate

Is the beach parking south of the pier as I'm going to drive (I know get the train :) and wont to be southern end of the crowd line for the light (hopefully).

Yes, everything on the beach is south of the pier. I think there is some off-beach parking north of the pier, but I've never been up there.

Thanks. What's the best way to get to it as it says drivers from the North will be directed to beach parking but also says Marine Drive up to the pier will be closed so I'm confused as to the best way in. Also says car parks open at 10am but I assume people are there at 6am (or earlier) like most airshows :).

Quote [What's the Viggen like sound-wise? Louder than the Typhoon?]

It's an impressive display and will be restricted compared with the combat landing and takeoff normally included in the middle of the show at airfield sites, but it represents an era of fighter jet that will increasingly be less represented at shows as remaining types are retired and not flown in civilian hands. Imagine how great it would be if the RAF front line fighters of the 60's - 90's were still allowed to fly!

I don't know how dB at ground level compares with Typhoon, but the Viggen sounds awesome, and has great purple reheat, enjoy the experience!

Won't the fun fair and screams from the rollercoaster drown it out? :dunno:

Rich Goodwin will be displaying G-JPIT for the first time though sadly without the jet engines for the moment.

Not been since the last Vulcan appearance (2015?) but hoping to go Sunday if the forecast holds. Haven't seen a Viggen in a long while so worth the trip just for that I reckon.

Not that I’m aware of Tom. Not to say that they aren’t around somewhere.

The beach is very very wet this year.

But the sun is shining, hoping it stays that way.

Assuming you’re here now, where the little green tractor is parked. It’s obscuring the centre marker.

Good day today. Weather improved throughout, some nice and varied acts. Very relaxed and enjoyable day.

Shame the Viggen is on so late in the program when the light is getting worse...

My first ever seaside show today. Went for the Viggen but really enjoyed the Gazelle pair, the Strikemasters and the Tunnan. The Viggen was brilliant to see but, I was a tad underwhelmed by its display and as pointed out above by JJC, by the time it displayed the sun had moved round and thus from a photography perspective at least, it was reduced to a silhouette and the wonderful splinter scheme was very difficult to appreciate.

The other thing that struck me was that the Red Arrows abscence from these shows is absolutely massive.

Really enjoyed the show. Lots of nice displays and the weather was good too. Perhaps the only disappointment was the 'star' for me in the Viggen. The sun positioning I can deal with but it was just so high. Shame when you get to see such a rare beast and it disappoints. Well done to Southport though. I really hope this is the airshow going from strength to strength as even without the reds, whose absence did leave a dent, today was an excellent show of variety for families and enthusiasts alike.

Really enjoyed today thank you to everyone for the advice. Agree the viggen was a little poor compared the the draken at Bournemouth it felt less punchy. The tunnan was great to see, p47 was flown beautiful as was the t33. Felt the ports wasn't up to the usual standard bit will blame that on the fact he is still learning the new aircraft.

I did enjoy today, it was great seeing some different acts to previous years.

Just a few points:
- I understand why they kept all the jet action to the final hour, but I do feel spacing them out throughout the day would have made the displays flow a little better...

- Not sure if it's the case at most airshows, but it feels like the toilets are prepared before the show, but then never looked at again for the rest of the day and they get in a right state.

- I agree with the others that the Viggen did seem distant, still glad to have seen it though along with everything else today. Overall great line-up and hopefully this continues.
