Other Hobbies?
So we all (I hope) have aviation in common, and from this forum we also know that photography and model-making are popular pastimes too, but what else do UKARians enjoy doing? Arts, crafts, sports, collections, talents - what else makes you tick besides things with wings?

Re: Other Hobbies?
I wouldnt worry.. ive never been out with a suitable woman yet and that includes my wife... ducking for cover!
anyway back on subject. Quizes i have a mind of completely useless information, so its perfect for that.
I like going to main libraries and looking up stories from years gone by on the databases of old papers, its fascinating and you find so much. I was looking at the press once from april 1912, and the Titanic disaster (have an interest in that too) and noticed that a day after the disaster The daily Mirror came up with the headline "Titanic safe and all on board are fine" you dont realise that we live in such times where something happens 4000 miles away you get to know about it, but then it took so long to find out. it was the morning of the 19th of april when the world finally found out the scale of the disaster.
I like my dad, uncles and cousin are massive petrol heads, many moons ago i used to race karts.. i wasnt too good but loved doing it. in April I am going Drifting with my cousin and his fire breathing Beemer. I used to own a mini clubman estate that had a 1430 howley racing engine in it. trouble was it had drum brakes and was fun to stop and the speedo only went up to 90mph, it would go a lot faster I think i got 120 out of it once. I dont think i could do that to my punto?
another hobby is cooking, i specialise in Greek cooking and especially Kleftico a lamb dish.

Music. I'm a guitarist, drummer, bassist and pianist, and also record/produce stuff for other people. I'm a massive gear geek too, and could talk about - say - the relative merits and drawbacks of versions 1-4 of the Fulltone OCD for days. I'm happiest when soldering up new guitar cables.
I've always been a bit obsessed with cars, and nothing has changed. Currently I tool around in a Volvo 850 T5 (keeping Shell in business all by myself), and have a 1976 MGB GT as a long-term project car.
I'm often to be found listening to trashy chart music far too loudly, quenching my current cranberry juice addiction, carefully crafting 'witty' tweets, and drinking vile spirits for the amusement of others.

I like to keep myself fit by running in the countryside around Welshpool, I quite like extreme sports, I'm an animal person, English Law (
) interests me because i'm studying it, and i'm a student so... I have to confess that I'm exceptionally game for drinking horrendously malicious beverages
I'm also a (crap) self taught pianist, so I like to play when I get the chance, along with writing poetry.
DanO, chasing after unsuitable women is part of our mandate as men isn't it? - its the same reason dogs chase after cars that they have no intention of driving....

I'm quite into camping. You can't beat a night under canvas, or polyester as it so often is these days. I also enjoy a bit of cooking, but the main thing I'm into at the moment is writing. I've been unemployed for a while and have decided to try and use the time constructively by writing a novel. Who knows, if it's any good I may even get rich.

Drawing Aeroplanes and when I retired I thought, great, I'll be able to spend more time hunched over my drawing board scribbling away. Unfortunately I've spent more time loitering at a certain airfield instead.

Re: Other Hobbies?
I have a passion for music - I love all sorts from classical to big band, rock'n'roll to dance, old to modern. I'm also good in a pub quiz! I play bass guitar and piano and am one of the few to have absolute pitch, not that I can sing, but surprises people when humming along to a song!!
I do photography when I can, just for my own amusement but I do teach in the school I work at as well, imparting some of my knowledge in out of hours courses. I work in IT but hate computers! I also work part time in the Garrick Theatre in Lichfield which is just superb.
I do mountain biking over Cannock Chase and further afield in Wales when I get chance to. I love Scotland and have been there numerous times as a youngster with my family and hopefully in the future with my own family as I love it up there. We have three dogs, one lab and two retired greyhounds but my girlfriend is a vet nurse so of course she would like a menagerie of animals so that'll be next.
I am a massive motorsport fan and am going to several events this year including F1 at Silverstone and hopefully 3 or 4 BTCC races. I like to go karting and have just entered a race league this year, should be fun! Also starting my first year of marshalling at Donington Park this year.

Re: Other Hobbies?
I used to race downhill mountain bikes and will be getting back into biking again soon, Just need to go collect my bike from my parents, music is a huge passion of mine - I could sit up all day and night listening to it. I love painting, I've got a large canvas on the go that I have just started..and then there is skydiving, I haven't jumped for a while but have a few under my belt and will be getting more into that early next year once my backs better.

Horse riding, clay pigeon shooting, off roading (cars and bikes), used to partake in motorcycle track days but that's gone now with the bike sold, a mate drives in the Toyota MR-2 champs so I follow that as much as I can, went to Cadwell last year and it was a superb weekend watching all the races as they have everything not just MR-2's on the day. I also enjoy cow tipping.

I blow holes in paper and blow up chalk discs with lumps of lead fired at high velocity out of a tube of metal by rapidly expanding gases caused by the ignition of nitro powder by a primer contained in a brass container within a sealed chamber.
In other words, I partake in target and practical shooting....

LOL I don't really partake in cow tipping it's just a comment I get from mates since I've gone all rustic and moved here. Here's an explanation or you can watch the Pixar Movie "Cars" for a funny alternate version

Just a bit of urbex and motorsport when I have a free weekend. Although motorsport isn't a cheap sport to watch alongside attending airshows!
