Das Boot
No, not the original, the misnamed steaming great heap of manure which is the new version.
It can't decide whether it wants to be a U-Boat series or a new version of 'Secret Army' ( and it spent more time on the latter )
Lots of scenarios plagiarised from the original....heck, it seemed like they even went out of their way to get some actors who looked like the original ones.
Crap, implausible storylines, particularly where the few submarine-related bits are concerned......presumably whoever the writers are have never read any literature to do with submarine warfare in general and U-Boats in particular.
As is usual for recent series & films, you've got your obligatory 'strong' female characters ( who are, naturally, lesbians ) and all the men are evil rapists.

Unfortunately it looks like they'll be making a second series.

Succession - SKY series 1

Up to episode 3 - very funny, dark and clever.

Succession is fantastic, I'm on season 2, episode 3. Looking forward to the Dundee episode. Hoping for a Logan Roy/Bob Servant crossover!

The Mandalorian. A series about a Mandalorian Bounty Hunter based in the Star Wars Universe, around five years after RoTJ.

Four episodes in and it's been pretty good so far; much better than those crappy 'new' Star Wars films Disney have been churning out.

Recommended.

Not watched yet, but series 6 ( or 601, because it's another two-part series as per series 5 ) of 'Vikings' has now started on Amazon Prime

Supposed to be the last one set in the same time period ( 9th Century ).....future series are apparently set around 100 years later ( Harald Hardrada, William the Bastard & the Norman invasion )

The aforementioned series 6 of Vikings
I know it's only 3 episodes in, but if the rest of the series continues in the same vein then it's just as well this is the last series in it's current incarnation as it's just getting plain silly.
A new comic-book bad guy, naff storylines, very little gratuitous violence & no gratuitous sex.
Meh!

Series 4 of The Expanse
Unlike Vikings, it's keeping up the standards of the previous series.
Holden's looking increasingly like Jesse Custer ( ) Naomi's got more tattoos, Alex is still useless with women, Amos still ain't Jayne Cobb, and Bobbie's lost weight ( ).......oh, plus the main bad guy in this series is British, the Belters are chucking rocks at people, and various people get killed off ( one for the second time.....perhaps )
Roll on series 5

I somehow managed to get through the final episode yesterday (in fact I had to fast forward the last 5 mins).
Mind numbingly slow and absolutely miserable. Sorry but you can't beat the original film.

We watched Jean-Claude Van Johnson on Amazon Prime over the past couple of nights. 6 episodes of great and funny entertainment. Basically has Jean-Claude Van Damme playing himself although he is actually a spy that does acting to be able to go undercover on missions. Very tongue-in-cheek, takes the mick out of himself something chronic, and has very good production values (co-produced by Ridley Scott). Highly recommended

Gallipoli ( on Amazon Prime )
It's not ANZACS, but it's a hell of a lot less sanitised.
Also different in showing part of it from the Turkish perspective.
Shame series 2 hasn't been made ( yet? )

Whinges?
Poor weapons (SMLE) drills, wrong ammo ( Mk.VI Round-Nosed .303 not Mk.VII ) and the obligatory firing despite the rifle not being 'cocked'

There was a half an hour documentary on Forces TV at tea time today (Channel 96 on Freeview) about the Red Arrows North American tour. As I say nicely done, straight to the point, no padding out and no adverts and some great aerial footage...

I have just watched the final episode. I still don't understand it and don't see how certain characters fit in. However, I certainly want to see more and am looking forward to getting into the book, which I got for Christmas and is now 2nd on the bedside pile.

They've been very clever in bringing elements of the 2nd book straight in to this series in Episode 2. Makes sense to have Will and Lyra's stories in parallel. And the opening scene from Episode 1 is from the prequel Book of Dust! There are some complex themes but I think it'll be worth sticking with. If I lose the thread of a film or TV programme I just look at the synopsis on IMDB!

I gave up on it half way though the first episode. Also given up on Star Trek: Discovery on E4 which I found to be very disappointing.

Watched the tv series 'What We Do In The Shadows' on iPlayer over Christmas.

Absolutely hilarious, loved it very much. Basically a 'mockumentary' about a group of vampires and their 'Familiar'. Done by Taikia Waititi who is such a brilliant comedic director and actor. It is based on his film from 2014, although not the same actors. Highly recommended :-)

Also, currently up to Episode 5 of 6 of James May's series on Japan on Amazon Prime. Very good and fun to watch.

Series 2 of Lost In Space on Netflix is ok, not brilliant as some of the episodes frustrate me, but otherwise good telly :-)

Just finished watching The Mandalorian, courtesy of a friend via a friend lol.............Thoroughly enjoyed it, what's the betting 'Baby Yoda'', or 'The Child' or 'The Foundling' (various names for the same thing), will become this Christmas' must have toy ?

I see Seal Team series 3 has just started on Sky this week, so will be catching up with that as loved the first two series.
