F1 2014

Post by Danny »

Must be time to start this years F1 thread?

Force India reveals first image of new VJM07 2014 F1 car

Image

Force India has become the first team to reveal its 2014 Formula 1 car by releasing an image of the Mercedes-engined VJM07.

The new car features the low nose mandated by the regulations, as well as the new tailpipe at the rear as part of measures designed to prevent exhaust-blown downforce.

The image does not reveal any dramatic design innovations, but it will not be until the car first appears at next week's Jerez test that any conclusions can be drawn about its technical merits.

First test runs at Jerez next week (Tues-Fri).

You posted yours in the wrong section. I deleted it when I saw it was a duplicate.

The Force India looks quite smart but I think I'll wait until Tuesday when they're out testing before I decide which one looks the nicest!!!!

That's just a testing livery. Colour scheme will be revealed at a later date, it could be a bit more colourful than the last few years because I believe Massa brings some backing from a couple of Brazilian companies. We'll see.

Car looks vile though. These things should interpreted before the rules are finalised to avoid writing in such ugly features. Yet another failing of F1.

The image of the Williams is a computer rendering - not a proper photograph.

They generally always run their cars in a blue livery during testing and then reveal the proper livery with sponsor logos et al once the season starts.

I think also, like previous seasons, the cars that you see on the launch day will look quite different in terms of wing/nose designs and features to the ones that line up for the first race.

Personally this is the 1st F1 season that I am looking forward to for a long time, hopefully things will be returned to a proper racing series rather than a boring procession around a load of 'boring' circuits... however the first few races of the season will decide how much interest it will hold for the remainder! Hopefully also the return of Ron Denis to a controlling role at McLaren will also make a difference!!

Looks like the double points for the last race is going ahead after all:

Personally I think this will spoil the championship. One race could change the entire season especially if luck, good or bad takes a hand, particularly in the last race.

Is it me or does the Williams FW36 looks like its got a runny nose without that ridiculous new wing section? Either that or the car appears to be meltin!

Nose on the Force India looks the same, they just chose to release an angle that conceals it. Most teams will run with noses in this style.

There are interpretations that are a little more extreme too. I'll try and find the mock-ups later and link them in here.

Nose shape is changed due to new regulations:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/formula1/25158104
The chassis shape is defined by three points - the bulkhead at the front of the cockpit opening, which has a maximum height of 625mm above the floor of the car; the bulkhead at the driver's feet, which has a maximum height of 525mm; and the crash structure in the nose, which is approximately one metre forward of that. That area has been lowered to 185mm - that's 365mm lower than in 2013.

So it seems that most cars will have similar shapes...
I think they look much better now.

Ron dennis will make a difference but it will be a gradual one not a quick one, it will take a few years before they are likely to be on top

They might be on top next week for all we know. New regulations are a clean slate for everyone.

Was going to type the same thing. To be honest it could be anyone's guess who will come out on top. Depends who exploits the rules and whatever loopholes they can find.

They are alternative interpretations of this year's nose regulations. Nobody said that's what those cars will have. The colour schemes are for illustrative purposes only.

Just had a look at the 360 view and I suppose it doesn't look too bad from the side. I quite like the return of the low noses. But from above and from the front, it looks a little phallic! :pinkwafer:

Can't beat a McLaren in it's proper Red and White colours... they really need to find a sponsor that would mean a revert back to them and away from the silver scheme they have used in recent years...

IMO the nose doesn't look that bad - apart from all the elements stacked up on the ends...
