It’s a bit of a running joke. It’s a famously unreliable attendee.

Re: RIAT 2022 Discussion Thread
We were even meant to have the special scheme, which went tech en route, and was replaced by the one we got, which went tech on the weekend!
Anyway including the Luxembourg registered E-3A we are at 34 nations for this year, impressive. Including likely display spares and supports (Swiss, Italian C-130 etc), I have 263 aircraft so far, with other weekend visitors likely, big size show for these times. Let's hope everything makes it over.

Lovely update - the C-130 is a great addition and the flypasts being varied over different days is something I've always (selfishly) enjoyed with attending all show days.
Best thing is a lack of cancellations - I know there's time to the show and the odd update to come but we've been pretty lucky so far on that front IMO.

Re: RIAT 2022 Discussion Thread
Surely a different Beluga version though, is this one a UK show debut for the XL?
Re: RIAT 2022 Discussion Thread
Beluga is a catch.
Great final update.
Roll on next Thursday!

Excellent update to an excellent show.
The Beluga flies past my house most days, but looking forward to seeing it a little lower than 20,000ft.

Lovely update to close. Been a great 5 months or so. Now for the real action to happen
The Beluga is something I have never seen, so thats a great update for me.

Indeed; the odd-ball configuration and the 'Beluga' name are the same, but it's actually an entirely new design. The XL is based on the A330, so it's significantly bigger, heavier and more sophisticated than the old A300-based examples.capercaillie wrote: ↑Thu 07 Jul 2022, 11:34 amSurely a different Beluga version though, is this one a UK show debut for the XL?

Re: RIAT 2022 Discussion Thread
A little quirk seems to be we will have a former RAF C-130K from Austria and a former RAF C-130J from Bahrain at the show, representing both generations of RAF Hercules with new users.
Re: RIAT 2022 Discussion Thread
I'm quite lucky in the respect that I get to see this from my own workplace reception just a mile away from Hawarden Airport and on the flightpath. Great pics opp for the smiley face on the front!Seahornet wrote: ↑Thu 07 Jul 2022, 12:05 pmIndeed; the odd-ball configuration and the 'Beluga' name are the same, but it's actually an entirely new design. Also, get a daily treat of it pulling up over our house after take off, and whilst watching my beloved Chester FC we get to see on matchdays on occasions too.
However, would rather live in Marston Meysey watching a B1 blast over though when that happens, you lucky people!

Re: RIAT 2022 Discussion Thread
There's been a whole discussion on fightercontrol about this subject as well. But they've of course stated in the update that they had the oppurtunity to release some of their special flyby's, and I think with last update they ment the last Thursday update. Of course, last minute attendee's and change's are always possible. And of course last minute announcements. It is absolutely amazing what we have right now but if they stated the possibily to still have more special flyby's ready to be announced I am still very excited to hear what they could possibly be. Could be a (If correct) 2017 situation where the B2 spirit + 2 F-15 flyby was last minute as well.
Re: RIAT 2022 Discussion Thread
It would have been Woodford 98. It's the only time I've seen it fly as part of an airshow. I'm fairly certain it wasn't there for the last two Woodford shows (99/00). Whether either of the A300 or A330 based Belugas have flown as part of a UK airshow since I really don't know. I'm guessing not but would be happily corrected.Seahornet wrote: ↑Thu 07 Jul 2022, 12:05 pmIndeed; the odd-ball configuration and the 'Beluga' name are the same, but it's actually an entirely new design. Yes agreed. A300ST's (just to be clear as legacy Belugas) have flown in Airbus Family Day flying displays (at least 06 and 09) but those events weren't open to the general public.Dr Cake wrote: ↑Thu 07 Jul 2022, 1:31 pmIt would have been Woodford 98. As much as I'm majorly disappointed to miss the black eagles red arrows flypast, I'm excited to see the beluga as not sure I've ever seen one flying.

I remember a video of a Beluga displaying at the airshow in Barcelona, always hoped it would become a more frequent display around Europe but they're busy bees (belugas)

With the final update, this is how things stand.
Absolutely fantastic work by Peter and the team at DBH. Getting an international show with this much participation as we come out of Covid, as well as in a situation with a war going on in Europe is an outstanding achievement.

Re: RIAT 2022 Discussion Thread
I agree that with the world the way it is we’re lucky to get as many attendees as we have this year!!
Personally for me I’m looking forward to seeing a flying B52 along with static U2 and E4B
The slight disappointments for me (and it’s certainly not a criticism) are that there’s no real F35 display from anywhere, no French duo (loved Ramex a few years ago) no A400 display (I know it’s there every year but I love watching it!) and I was hoping this year would finally be the year I’d see a B1 flying (here’s hoping for a secret unannounced flypast)
Anyway…can’t wait for next week and there’s so many positives you outweighs the “only-if’s”!

This is a mistake according to a post on the nutters FB page. RIAT will apparently be sending out a correction email.
I got an email about Pimms, which does issue a voucher and had nearly the same wording as the one we got about this, so I assume someone forgot to edit that bit out of the template.

Another fantastic update
Quite amazed that some people are disappointed with the Beluga flypast, i'm going on the Sunday and would much rather see the Beluga than the Reds with the Black Eagles.
Either way, the team have done a wonderful job in putting a show the size of this together with everything thats gone on and is currently going on now in the world.
