RIAT ‘22 wish list
Re: RIAT ‘22 wish list
I think some people believe that if an F35 is not there something more interesting will be in its place, I'm not so sure, I think the only thing we'll get instead will be a toilet break.
Re: RIAT ‘22 wish list
I like the F-35
Shame you can’t see the damn thing.

Re: RIAT ‘22 wish list
No hate toward the F-35, just not all interested in it, its going to be around for decades to come so there is plenty of time to wet my pants over it as others seem to be doing at the prospect of seeing it at show.jasonT1981 wrote: ↑Thu 27 Jan 2022, 8:18 pmWhy the hate on the F35? I'd love to see a full demo. Sure, it's not the Harrier but it's the most modern military jet aircraft out there that realistically could be at RIAT.
I have a feeling as time progresses the F35 argument will echo the too many F16s arguments we've heard over the years.
BTW you've answered yourself with your second sentence - exactly that!
Re: RIAT ‘22 wish list
I would love to see the US F35 Demo . I know they will be around for years but seeing a first full demonstration would be great for the show .
Re: RIAT ‘22 wish list
Assuming the show goes ahead this year, the odds are in your favour. I still marvel at the hover demo from the B model too.
RIAT 2022 Flying display
Only 160 days to go. Rather than a wish / fantasy list that we have a thread for already, this is my forecast for a realistic flying display. Please suggest anything 'realistic' that may have been overlooked.

Retired last year. Final display was flown in August 2021.

Re: RIAT ‘22 wish list
Why would two items that have both previously appeared in a RIAT flying display, one of them on 3-4 occasions not be realistic?
Re: RIAT ‘22 wish list
I'd love to see the NASA "Canberra" (WB-57)
Re: RIAT ‘22 wish list
Granted the F18F could attend from Boeing in this Farnborough year. I was thinking of the US Navy Demo team though rather than the manufacturer although the aircraft is the same. Which is the other to have attended and flown in the flying display?capercaillie wrote: ↑Tue 08 Feb 2022, 11:49 amWhy would two items that have both previously appeared in a RIAT flying display, one of them on 3-4 occasions not be realistic?

Re: RIAT ‘22 wish list
Flew in from Waddington for a little demo . Were there on exercises. Was at Waddington airshow where a few took off and on static.

Re: RIAT ‘22 wish list
With the USAF 75th theme, how about getting the French based F86 Sabre over? Civilian now, yes. However played a massive part in the Cold War for the USAF.
Re: RIAT ‘22 wish list
There is still a CAA ban on aerobatics by civilian swept-wing jets in force, so if the Sabre came it wouldn’t be able to fly its full demo. And to be pedantic, it’s a Canadair Sabre 6 (powered by an Orenda), not strictly an F-86

Re: RIAT ‘22 wish list
I didn't realise the ban was still there, but you are right. Restricted to flypasts still. I thought it was lifted in 2018 but that was only straight wing ex Military.
Pretty stupid given the full circumstances of Shoreham are now long known and aircraft issues were never a factor in it at all.

Re: RIAT ‘22 wish list
Given that two swept-wing jets being operated by civilians crashed within a short space of time, I guess there is no incentive for the CAA to lift the ban.
The whole point isn’t ‘aircraft issues’ being a factor, more a wider one of whether civilians should be flying low-level high-energy aerobatics in demanding, swept-wing jets.

Re: RIAT ‘22 wish list
There's been plenty of excellent displays by historic jets post Shoreham so I'm not really sure it's an issue anyway. I've noticed over the years that many people at airshows don't like raising their heads to watch aerobatic manoeuvres, you see it all the time, a plane pulls up to do something or other and half the people lose interest and look down or talk to their friends.
Re: RIAT ‘22 wish list
I don't blame them. I go to watch the aircraft, not tiny specks disappearing halfway to the moon and back. I still haven't got a decent shot of Shuttleworth's Spitfire, as every show I've been to it's been flung about several thousand feet up.Gt5500 wrote: ↑Wed 16 Feb 2022, 3:45 pmThere's been plenty of excellent displays by historic jets post Shoreham so I'm not really sure it's an issue anyway.
