Let’s be realistic here, the last Flying Legends in 2019 was criticised on this very forum for a lack of visiting acts from abroad… whether that’s CAA, Brexit etc. I’m sure it’s even harder now since COVID to get acts from the continent.

I’d be the first to criticise IWM when it is justified but for once let’s enjoy what’s on offer for this September show as it is the closest we’ll get to FL until (if) it returns.

Hear hear! It's a bloody cracking line up, so let's stop being pedantic!

Or, just maybe, lets not. Lets make it clear that we endorse this line-up and the IWM running the September Battle of Britain Show at Duxford, but we want Legends back and the team seeking out Continental and World rarity warbirds every July, asap, thank you very much.

The point, really, is that you are wrong - about aircraft content.

I have very quickly cobbled together a list of aircraft from the last half-dozen editions of Flying Legends that have never been seen at any other Duxford show. In no particular order, badly formatted and likely containing errors, but it illustrates the point:

Douglas DC-3 42-24133 N431HM Hugo Mathys/Classic Formation
Beech 18 1538 N21FS Hugo Mathys/Classic Formation
Beech 18 2344 N223CM Hugo Mathys/Classic Formation
Beech 18 N184KP Hugo Mathys/Classic Formation
Vought Corsair F4U-5N 124724 F-AZEG AJBS Les Casques de Cuir
Hawker Hurricane IIa P3351 F-AZXR Jan Roozen
North American P-51D Mustang 44-74923 (Trusty Rusty) PH-JAT Stichting Vroege Vogels / Early Birds Foundation
Douglas C-53D-DO Dakota 11750 LN-WND Foundation Dakota Norway
Lockheed P-38 Lightning 44-53254 N25Y Flying Bulls
North American B-25J Mitchell 44-86893 N6123C Flying Bulls
Chance Vought F4U-4 Corsair 96995 OE-EAS Flying Bulls
Douglas DC-6B OE-LDM Flying Bulls
North American P-51B Mustang 43-24837 (Berlin Express) N-515ZB Comanche Fighters
North American P-51D Mustang 44-73656 (Moonbeam) F-AZXS Mistral Warbirds - Fred Akary
Grumman TBM Avenger HB-RDG Charlies Heavy Association
Lockheed 12A Junior Electra NC14999 Patrick Donovan
Hawker Sea Fury FB11 WH589 F-AZXJ Spitfire Warbirds (Jacquard)
Hawker Fury ISS 37514 F-AZXL Jan Roozen
CASA 352L - Junkers Ju 52/3m T2B.212 F-AZJU JBS
Morane-Saulnier M.S.406 J-143 Mobile Air Services
Douglas DC-3 2204 HB-IRJ Breitling Super Constellation Flyers
Chance Vought F4U-5NL Corsair 124541 D-FCOR Max Alpha Aviation
Boeing P-26A Peashooter 33-123 N3378G Planes of Fame
Lockheed C-121C Super Constellation 54-1056 HB-RSC SCFA

No other airshow or organising team in the historic scene has ever had the same ambition to put different types or different examples of common types in front of a UK crowd.
 Duxfords airshow is a primarily WW2 line up, as you would expect, with no Jets as yet - just like Flying Legends.
Therefore my point stands, and I’m right !

Just to add my bit for Flying Legends.

United States Air Force F35 and Mustang heritage pass at Duxford Flying Legends on 15-07-2018 as you would expect even at the odd Flying Legends show.

May be difficult for The Battle of Britain show this year to have jets as they have done in the past due to Sanicole, the Melun show all clashing on the same dates as well the Typhoon at another display and/or partly due to costs but of course they could pull something out of the bag.

I am planning to do Duxford Friday and Saturday and Melun on Sunday for a weekend of variety.

Repeat of the Spitfire Formation from 2015 would be cool, also liking the prospect of a Hurricane Formation too. Be interesting of anything else is added.

Fingers crossed for the Tempest - whether that is realistic or not, I'm not sure!

No different in that regard to the MiG-15 that regularly appears.

Anyway... a bit off topic - I just keep praying it will turn up. Imagine a flypast with the Schwalbe a Mustang and late model Spitfire...

Would also think no different to the various Hunters that fly in the UK?

Other than the three HHA contracted examples I can't remember the last time I saw another Hunter flying in the UK, must be seven years ago - Culdrose? Slightly depressing.

Yes the one that was crashed at Shoreham flew into Culdrose about a fortnight before that fatal day

The last chance in the U.K. to see a Mi-24/35 in Czech colours.

Great pull from Duxford.

They were excellent at RIAT, likely to look even better at a smaller venue!

Well done to Duxford for getting the Czechs - we are being spoilt with this display this year appearing for, hopefully, the second time - but it is still only going to be the Hip's third UK airshow flying appearance.

Is this the same display as at RIAT last month, or do they still do the winching demo that appeared at Biggin in 2017 (I have no idea if one is an evolution of the other or a completely different display?
