BBC Sports Personality short list - discuss
Nicola Adams - Boxing, Gareth Bale - Football, Alistair Brownlee - Triathlon, Sophie Christiansen - Equestrian, Kadeena Cox - Athletics/Cycling, Mo Farah - Athletics, Jason Kenny - Cycling, Laura Kenny - Cycling.
Andy Murray - Tennis, Adam Peaty - Swimming, Kate Richardson-Walsh - Hockey, Nick Skelton - Equestrian, Dame Sarah Storey - Cycling, Jamie Vardy - Football, Max Whitlock - Gymnastics, Danny Willett - Golf.
I can't see any other winner than Andy Murray. I cannot see how Chis Froome a three times Tour de France winner is not on the list.

It's almost as if it was set up for Andy Murray to win.

Must be said, after the absolute crap-shoot that has been 2016, at least we've had some pretty decent sport.
Some worthy names on that list, likely Murray, but surely Kenny or Kenny are both in with a shout?

Surprised Sam Allardyce isn't on the list....
In all seriousness though, Anthony Joshua should've been on it.

I think Boxing knowledge among joe public is at an all time low. Long gone are the days when the family gathered around the TV to watch, Our Henry and Muhammad All, Bugner, Conteh , Mcguigan etc. The powers that be made their pay to view bed and presumably they are happy to lie in it.

Well that and people today don't have much of an appetite to see two blokes punching each other until one of them has to be taken to hospital; they would rather watch Strictly, X Factor or BGT.
Agree with the earlier poster - nailed on Murray win which I have do issue with as his World #1 status is head and shoulders above what the others on the list have achieved.
Re: BBC Sports Personality short list - discuss
Would be nice to see Kadeena Cox recognised for her impressive dual sport Paralympic performance. Two golds in two completely different disciplines is an incredibly notable achievement in my book.

Mo Farah for me. A true great, and a top personality to boot.
(But, as a cycling fan I'm also disappointed that Chris Froome isn't there, and nominating both Laura and Jason Kenny has split the cycling vote.)

As the winner is decided by a public vote I can't see a paralympian capturing the public's imagination sufficiently.

My top 3:
1. Andy Murray - 1st man to win back to back Olympic singles gold medals in tennis. 2nd Wimbledon title. Runner up in French Open when clay is his least favoured surface. And then the unthinkable at the start of the year - knocking Djokovic off
top spot in tennis.
2. Laura Kenny - 1st British female Olympian to win 4 gold medals.
3. Nick Skelton - I don't know anything about equestrian, however Nick Skelton broke his neck in 2000 and fought back to win team gold at 2012 and then followed it up with individual gold in 2016 at the age of 58. A remarkable achievement.
With the British team doing so well at the Olympics it was apparent that most of the nominees would have participated at the Olympics or Paralympics. The only non Olympians on the list are Gareth Bale and Jamie Vardy - Danny Willet competed in the Olympic golf alongside Justin Rose.
I think that the allegations surrounding Alberto Salazar and the Nike Oregon Project will likely do for Mo Farah's chances of winning.

Why no Froome ?
Probably because men's distance-cycling is such a toxic sport these days , with all the revelations of cheating surrounding it.
And in the 'missing' list...why no Jade Jones or Bethany Firth ?

That - and most of the people voting would view Froome as being Kenyan - he lived in Africa until he was 22.

Brownlee - After helping his brother over the line, giving up the win. That'll be shown on the night and folk will ring in by the hundred. I think. But what do I know

Kate R-W won't win, but the GB Hockey girls have to be odds on for team of the year, no?
But then Leicester city...

As I can't see Cal Crutchlow on the list, I'm not interested.

Remind us again how many Championships he's won this year.....or in recent years , for that matter....
Heck , he's won hardly any races in recent years ( although he does have a really impressive record of DNFs )
That would be the reason he's not on the list.

Andy Murray - he's world number one. He won Wimbledon again. It's hard to see past him.
Team - Wales football team (male). Went above expectations.
Best individual moment of brilliance - got to be this fella:

Any other year Norman I'd agree with Wales for team of the year. But Leicester City are nailed on for team of the year surely? coming out of nowhere to win the premier league was quite something.

I would hope so too!
Leicester, yes, they'll be in the top 3 for certain. (Top 3 of the SPOTY, not the league....)

My Guess for top 3 would be team GB, England Rugby and Leicester. Would prefer rugby to win over Leicester personally. (Team of the year vs team of 5 months!

Esp' the way way Leicester have 'gone all Blackburn' and sunk like a stone to the relegation zone of the EPL!
