The final part of our 2004 aviation trip to beautiful New Zealand is new now at aviationanoraks.co.uk featuring some of the other aircraft, flying and preserved, that we came across both on North and South islands.
Hopefully, at some time in the future we will be able to return.

Pilatus Turbo Porters at Mount Cook airport.
We flew up to the glacier in MCK, with a snow landing once there and a full on Khe Sanh approach back at base! An experience I will never forget.

Squirrel on White Island.
Another incredible flight and visit.
Flew from Rotorua to visit this volcanic island. Spent an hour or so walking around with the pilot as tour guide, then flew a circuit of the island before returning to Rotorua.

With chances to see historic aircraft very rare this year, we were very grateful when RAF Cosford
gave us a heads up that Hawker Hurricane R4118 was to make a short visit on the 18th August.
We also had the bonus of a fly past by the NHS Spitfire, but it crept up on us so no photos!
We did post photos from the day on UKAR at the time, but have also now posted them on our own website.

This week it’s back to September 2007 for aviationanoraks.co.uk and a look at the Vintage Aircraft Club fly-in held at Turweston airfield.
We only popped in for a few hours but glad we did, as there were some unusual aircraft present including the Chrislea Super Ace that we had not seen fly before - or since.

In September we visited the RAF Museum at Cosford to have a look around the new Battle Of Britain Exhibition, which is now featured on our ‘Latest Update’ page at aviationanoraks.co.uk.
Well worth a visit when the museum reopens, as a number of previously unseen artefacts are on display alongside the aircraft.

More from the RAF Museum at Cosford this week.
It’s not often that we get a chance to see under the skin of a historic aircraft, but upon our September visit they had their Messerschmitt Me410 Hornisse on display partially disassembled in the Warplanes hangar as it was undergoing conservation work.
Too good an opportunity to miss, lots of photos were taken, and the results form our latest update this week.

The final part of our visit to the RAF Museum Cosford is now on our latest page at aviationanoraks.co.uk
In normal years we tend to visit Cosford twice a year as it is fairly local to us, but this was our only visit of 2020 and with everything going on in the world it made for a few hours of happy escapism.

We can tend to take our national and independent museums for granted, but this year has made us think about them a bit differently and we now intend to try and visit more of them once we can.
They certainly need us to put some money their way at the moment.

Some scans from 36 years ago this week at aviationanoraks.co.uk and photos from the September 1984 RAF At Home Day held at RAF Abingdon.
This was the first time at Abingdon, but not the last.

Latest update at aviationanoraks.co.uk covers our September visit to the Army Flying Museum at Middle Wallop.
The first time we had been since the refurbishment of the buildings, and good to see more artefacts on show than we remember from our last visit.

Photos from our first ever visit to the mightily impressive Aerospace Bristol are new this week at aviationanoraks.co.uk
Interesting displays, beautifully lit, in sympathetically restored hangars make this one of the finest aviation museums we have visited in recent years.

The last part of our September visit to Aerospace Bristol is new now at aviationanoraks and covers the display surrounding the last Concorde to fly, G-BOAF.
This is the most interesting and well presented display regarding Concorde that we have seen, and we learned a lot about a type that we had previously pretty much taken for granted. The projected presentation of how the engine and surrounding systems worked throughout the flight envelope was particularly interesting (shown in the image below).

This week at aviationanoraks.co.uk we take a look at another former British Airways icon in the form of Boeing 747-400 G-CIVB which has been retired to Kemble airfield wearing the retro Negus scheme from the 1970’s.
This is the first of the BA retro jets that we have managed to see, hopefully we might catch up with some of the others in the future.
This aircraft is situated on a purpose built hard standing, so hopefully its future is secured for a good number of years.

Aviationanoraks stays at Kemble this week, with photos from the Battle Of Britain fly-in held in September of last year.
We fell upon this event by chance, as we had not seen any advertising beforehand (even though we had been staying just up the road in Cirencester in the week leading up to it) and had decided to pop in on the way back to our accommodation.
Glad we did, as it was a pleasant surprise with a number of aircraft still on site or just about to depart.

Bristol Britannia XM496 at Kemble is our subject this week, with a walk-around of the aircraft, which looks to be in stunning condition considering it has been kept outside since its arrival in 1997.

Our final set from Kemble takes a look at the two Phantoms belonging to BPAG that were on site at the time of our visit.
All of the photos were taken from the correct side of the barriers (unlike a couple with a small child who took no notice of the signs and were wandering around the aircraft!) and gave a rare chance to see how the F-4 comes apart.
The photos will be a nice comparison to the aircraft once they are restored, a day we look forward to.
We wish the group all the best with their plans, the completed aircraft will be a wonderful sight.

These won’t be as up to date as Pen Pushers thread, but last Remembrance Day saw us visit the RAF Museum at Hendon.
Due to going a bit silly with the cameras, we will cover a different hall or aircraft over the next few weeks.
We start off with the ‘Marmite’ Hangar 1

Our final set from the RAF Museum at Hendon is a walk-around of Gulf-War veteran Tornado ZA457. One of the few converted to GR1B standard, allowing carriage of the anti-shipping Sea Eagle missile, ‘457 served with a number of RAF squadrons during its career, and is preserved in the colours of the famous 617 squadron.
