F1 ( and other motorsports ) 2020

Post by Brevet Cable »

As this season has now finished, so time for a new topic.

https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/article.teams-vote-to-keep-2019-spec-pirelli-tyres-for-2020.2potT9l4NZ0uT5o7v3e9GO.html
Pirelli have been busy evaluating a prototype 2020 tyre for next season, most recently at the Abu Dhabi post-season test, but following analysis of the results, the teams have voted unanimously to stick with the current specification.

Teams were given the new compounds to run in first practice for the United States Grand Prix earlier this year, before further running in Abu Dhabi this month.
After that test, Pirelli said they were left with “mixed” results from the teams, with the Italian tyre firm adding they’d be happy to continue with the current compounds in 2020 rather than a new spec if the majority of the grid wants to.

A vote was held, requiring at least 70 per cent of competing teams to agree to reject the new 2020 tyres and retain the status quo as per Article 12.6.1 of the FIA’s Technical Regulations.

On Tuesday, the FIA announced all 10 F1 teams were in favour of keeping the current compounds.
“The vote resulted in a unanimous decision to keep the 2019 specification tyres for the 2020 season by the Formula 1 teams,” said the FIA in a statement.

Was undecided where to put this ( after I'd edited the subject title ) as the season runs from July to June.....
This weekend sees the Bahrain round of the WEC.

Paying driver Robert Kubica off to Alfa Romeo as reserve driver, thanks to their new sponsor ( Polish petrol company ) PKN Orlen.

And tomorrow sees the start of this year's ( still misnamed ) Paris-Dakar Rally, with Alonso driving for Toyota.

It hasn't been known as the "Paris-Dakar" for a long time now, they rebranded it as just the "Dakar Rally" many years ago.

Still misnamed, though, given that it hasn't gone anywhere near Dakar for more than a decade.

It's called branding.

As Ron Dennis once remarked to Nigel Roebuck when asked why he kept the McLaren name after he took over the team, "if you and I bought Marks & Spencer, we wouldn't rename it "Dennis & Roebuck", would we?

Yawn, living off his name he'll either win it as no one can touch Toyota or do nothing as per his other non BOTB adventures

I really hope he never comes back to F1

With just the slightest bit of finesse, I might have made a little less mess.

rumours doing the rounds that Merc may be pulling out of F1 as a works team and that the team may be bought out by Aston Martin.
that could be interesting, but also a sign maybe that the 2021 rules mean a shakeup that would make them no longer top of the pile?

Looks like Racing point will be called Aston Martin from 2021.

If you have a smart TV, NowTV box Chromecast, Fire TV Stick, etc. you should have a YouTube app.

Wonder if the Chinese GP will go ahead given the current Corona virus scare?

There is talk that the race may be cancelled, or moved to later in the year.

Wonder if they will have similar cooling issues to Mercedes last year who ran with an extremely tight aero package at the rear of the car.

Speaking of Merc:

Both Toto and Sir Jim Ratcliffe were coy at the Ineos sponsorship announcement the other day, however hints of Merc staying in F1, Toto close to new deal and new deal for Lewis. Personally can’t see a major sponsor signing up for 5 years if they weren’t sure those things were happening.

One of the papers reckons Lewis will get a 3 year $180m deal.

I came across the following post when reading some news on an F1 site about the pre-season tests so far. Nuff said!

"The fastest time on day one of the test was a certain amount faster than that of the next fastest car, leading some to suggest that there’s no point at all in going through with the 21 grands prix scheduled to take place this season"
