The Three You Most Want to See
A fairly simple premise, let's see your list of three aircraft you are yet to see but want to see more than any other - or at least the three you think make up that list at this moment.
For me (in no particular order)...
- IAI Kfir - My favourite aircraft to trace its origins back to a Mirage design.
- MiG-25 - Well, it's just fast and big - and completely different to any other jet fighter.
- EB-707 Condor - A fairly simple idea - take a fairly common commercial aircraft (even if 707s are now somewhat a dying breed), and give it a radome here, an antenna there, and you end up with a dull grey aeroplane (usually), that looks far more interesting than before it was converted. I have no idea how much longer it has left with the arrival of the ex-RAF Sentries in Chile, but I'd love to see it.
A tricky question, I am sure you agree, but it would be interesting to see what others want to see.

Re: The Three You Most Want to See
F4D Skyray.
Fascinated with them since building an Airfix kit when I was a kid.
SB2C Helldiver
Never had the pleasure of seeing a complete one, just parts for a restoration project.
F-35C
Just to see if the bigger wing makes them look right.
Just realised they are all Navy types, hadn’t made that connection before.
There are probably many others if I really think about it.

1 - De Havilland Mosquito. Not old enough to remember RR299 and I haven't got the drive to trek across to the states. When at the Shuttleworth proms a couple of weeks back, the orchestra played 633 Squadron whilst the Anson was preparing to display. It made me realise I would a decent sum of money to see a Mosquito displayed at Old Warden is such circumstances.
2 - Any of the Russian heavy bombers, preference would be the Blackjack. Very slim chances of that at the moment
3 - F-14 Tomcat. Quite an imposing fighter that I would love to have seen. Iran the only hope now.

XB-70 Valkyrie
RB-45 Tornado
YF-23
Two weeks from now I should be able to tick all three off the list.

Algeria were the last operators of the MiG-25, and they've only just last month finally retired their remaining MiG-25's, making the final flights at the beginning of August, so you're not ever going to see one now, well not one flying.Professor_M wrote: ↑Tue 06 Sep 2022, 4:05 pm- MiG-25 - Well, it's just fast and big - and completely different to any other jet fighter.

Yes - it was going to happen at some point, just a shame the type never made it to the UK (I think at least).GeeRam wrote: ↑Tue 06 Sep 2022, 6:20 pmAlgeria were the last operators of the MiG-25, and they've only just last month finally retired their remaining MiG-25's, making the final flights at the beginning of August, so you're not ever going to see one now, well not one flying.Professor_M wrote: ↑Tue 06 Sep 2022, 4:05 pm- MiG-25 - Well, it's just fast and big - and completely different to any other jet fighter.
A trip to the USAF Museum at Dayton or the Estonian Aviation museum will be needed to tick that one off.

Its updated and improved sister, the MiG-31 did come to the UK though, back in 1992 at Farnborough Airshow.Professor_M wrote: ↑Tue 06 Sep 2022, 7:31 pmYes - it was going to happen at some point, just a shame the type never made it to the UK (I think at least).GeeRam wrote: ↑Tue 06 Sep 2022, 6:20 pmAlgeria were the last operators of the MiG-25, and they've only just last month finally retired their remaining MiG-25's, making the final flights at the beginning of August, so you're not ever going to see one now, well not one flying.Professor_M wrote: ↑Tue 06 Sep 2022, 4:05 pm- MiG-25 - Well, it's just fast and big - and completely different to any other jet fighter.

Difficult to pick just three - Insofar as current stuff that’s out there:
- 160th SOAR birds (probably the AH/MH-6, but anything from them really)
- Bulgarian Navy Panthers (for me, genuinely the most beautiful helicopter in service in the world right now)
- WB-57
There’s also a lot I’d like to go back over - I’ve seen Ka-52s, but not got much from them in the air.

Re: The Three You Most Want to See
So aircraft still flying that I’d love to see at a show:
- F-117: the aircraft that started this hobby for me, as a young boy during the Gulf War.
- F-14: especially if it buzzed the tower.
- Fw 190: in formation with a Bf 109 would be a dream.

2024 shows: Abingdon, Cosford, Sywell, RIAT, Zeltweg with a couple of Duxford and Shutteworth shows thrown into the mix.

Re: The Three You Most Want to See
Sticking with aircraft that are still operational.
Difficult one as I've seen a Su24 but buried in the static at Farnborough, MiG31 but didn't fly during the displays, WB-57 - rubbish weather on the day, etc.
I'd concur regarding the PS-2, would be fabulous to see.
as the Chinese are flying their home built Badgers and developments thereof any X-6 variant.
As I missed them at Farnborough the JF-17
Realistically of types I have seen before but not as a particular country
Greek T-2 before they are gone - not long left now surely?
Ukrainian Su24 or Su25 if any are left by the time this unnecessary crap is over

A flying example of an SR-71 Blackbird, a flying example of an English Electric Lightning and an F-22 Raptor. To name but a few.
Re: The Three You Most Want to See
Tell you what, I was thinking today and all, perhaps we need a separate list of “frustratingly rare for what they are”
In the U.K.:
- a fat tank Chinook HC5;
- a BATUS-coloured Gazelle; and
- a FOST Dauphin.

Re: The Three You Most Want to See
Not sure if the choice has to be types that are currently in service but I would chose 3 museum airframes...
Dornier Do 335
Heinkel He 219
Boulton Paul Defiant
... very closely followed by Lancaster NX611, Halifax NA337 and Wellington N2980!
Or perhaps that should be the other way around or should I add the Lightning, Gannet, Swift....

Heinkel He 219
Boulton Paul Defiant

...and pray that there's intelligent life somewhere up in Space cos there's bugger all down here on Earth!
Re: The Three You Most Want to See
I saw Wellington N2980 Sunday just gone.....usually see it a couple of times a year when visiting Brooklands for car shows, so always have a peak into the hangar.TonyC wrote: ↑Wed 07 Sep 2022, 4:19 pmNot sure if the choice has to be types that are currently in service but I would chose 3 museum airframes...

Seen the Defiant at Hendon loads of times from when I used to go there several times a year back in the 70's and 80's.
And, yes, I'd love to see the Do335 and He219 as well....doubt I ever will now though.
