Pink Moon tonight ~ 07Apr20

Post by Pen Pusher »

If you want to try something different from your garden, there should be a Pink Moon tonight, clouds permitting.

Providing the weather is clear, everyone in the UK should get a good view of the supermoon – all you have to do is stick your head out the window and look up. If you want to get really technical, the Super Pink Moon will officially peak at 03.35 on Wednesday morning. But you’ll be able to get a good view of it from around 20.15 onwards as the sun sets tonight.

The best I could get shooting through thin cloud and hand holding with my Sony Alpha A6500 CSC & Sony E 70-350mm F4.5-6.3 G OSS lens.

What time was that Brian? It wasn't pink at 02:00.

The "pink" epithet apparently comes from synchronisation with the flowering of some American Phlox flower that is pink: the Moon itself sadly isn't!

Photo taken just gone 8pm and I believe it's only that colour while it's close to the horizon due to dust and muck in the atmosphere. Although it's basically brown in colour it was the Native American Indians who named it a pink moon as the colour coincided with the flower blooming.
