Not the sort of airframe that I would think the USAF would want at the back of static and inaccessible?

Far, far rarer than any B52 or B1. I am not sure how often they make it onto static in the US?
The Green Zone incorporates the southwest loop so it could be readily available IF needed. But if they weren't sure about needing it, surely they just wouldn't send it in the first place?

Now imagine the fuss if the RIAT comms team had left a cryptic line this week and an E4B had turned up at the show. That said, this is something I'm really looking forward to see, is definitely a star of the show and in years to come will likely be how RIAT 2022 is remembered.

I never realised that SAHI was based up in Inverness, I'll have to try and say hello when I'm next at the airport!

Please do. You’ll find me in the Marine Scotland aircraft office on site, mostly.

Just a quick question,

Of course, the Airbus A400M from airbus themselfs has attended pretty much every RIAT since 2011, but does the team even still exist? As how far I've read and seen, RIAT 19 was their last show?

Only 4 airframes.
An aeroplane designed for worst situation possible in the world.
I would have thought it would need to be accessible, unless U/S.

Just my opinion.

I wouldn’t say different was the right word

Would it really be that big of a miss when we’ve seen the same display for years on end? There’s always a chance it’ll return in future (French demo/perhaps Airbus)

Yes it would because there are so few heavy displays and even fewer that are thrown around like that, I for one will miss it greatly.

Depends on what way you look at it i guess,

I go as a Family and the kids love seeing something that large being thrown around.

The nation on the side is irrelevant to a non spotter.

Of course, it's something which has been there so many time's that it maybe get's boring, but it's 1 a heavier display which in my eyes is always just beautiful to see, and as well it is my first time attending RIAT and I am a true A400M lover, so it would be amazing to maybe still see it turn up if the team still exists.

But as others have said there is no A400m display to squeeze in. Where would it come from? Unless Airbus, who don't seem to have one, it seems highly unlikely.

Another fab update today. A show full of firsts that keeps on giving. Amazing stuff 👏

Please correct me if I am wrong, but i don't think that the E-4b has ever appeared at RIAT before. Can I ask how many of usaf aircraft have only appeared once or twice at RIAT?

I did study the airbus website and I am just not sure about it tho, it seems to sort of still exist. And how far I've read the display has attended ILA Berlin this year as well. But may be me, if it still exists, hope the organisation can maybe still make a deal with Airbus and squeeze it into a gap somewhere. Would be a different kind of display then the other one's for this year.

Well that was a surprising day's update and as my learned friend texted me earlier perhaps the biggest scoop since the Russian Bears turned up in 1993 and 94 (so much better times).

However and as reliable as the information turned out to be, I just feel a little sorry for Peter and the team to pull a scoop like that and have the thunder stolen by someone who seemingly was in the know so the announcement didn't come as such a shock as it should have been.

But top work making that one possible. :clap_tone1: :clap_tone2: :clap_tone3:

After the update I initially called the FC Chap a god due to the information being correct but as I drove home from work and thought about it I came to this conclusion aswell.

Especially as I believe (I may be wrong) the documents given to flight crew are not public documents and also never represent the current state of play.

Most of us in the know stay tight lipped even though sometimes it is so hard to do.

I’m just pleased for Pete and his team that in their first attempt since 2019 they’ve pulled a cracker out of the bag.

Firstly, Peter & Team, absolutely incedible getting something as rare as the E4B. The US Support is absolutely amazing this year.

Some lovely additions to the static and will be good to see the Aw149 in the Friday line-up.

So, with 2 weeks to go, this is how we stand, and it's shaping up to be one incredible weekend with a lot of variety.

Honestly, I don't think it matters. Judging from the response on here and other sites, it was still a thrill and a surprise. As has been said many times before, it's not official until it's announced and it's not real until it arrives. A lot can happen in two weeks.

Does DBH announce aircraft as soon as they receive official confirmation or do they wait? It just feels weird that some guy was told the E-4B and B-52 will be at RIAT about 3 weeks before they were confirmed?

They wait to receive official approvals/confirmation letters. They may already have informal agreements with air arms for participation, but it doesn't go on the website until that paperwork comes through.... (as I understand it anyway).
