No matter what the perceived benefits for UK PLC, nor whatever calculations can be made re. whether some of this amount could just purchase 12 or so replacement aircraft.........this is a massive amount of money. Wonder what it would have been for just the T2s alone.

It’s an 11 year contract for the whole Hawk fleet.
As well as providing availability support to the RAF’s Hawk T2 fleet, BAE Systems will provide depth maintenance to the RAF’s iconic Red Arrows display team.
(PS. The NHS costs £ 1/2 Billion a day to run in comparison.)

By underpinning our contribution to European security, without which you would be experiencing the joys of the Russian NHS among other life-enhancing benefits of membership of the Russian Federation?cg_341 wrote: ↑Thu 31 Mar 2022, 11:06 amPlease, remind me how many lives per day the Hawk fleet saves?ericbee123 wrote: ↑Thu 31 Mar 2022, 10:41 am(PS. What are you babbling on about ?cg_341 wrote: ↑Thu 31 Mar 2022, 11:06 amPlease, remind me how many lives per day the Hawk fleet saves?ericbee123 wrote: ↑Thu 31 Mar 2022, 10:41 am(PS. The NHS costs £ 1/2 Billion a day to run in comparison.)
I was contrasting the £ 1/2 billion figure that was meant to be so massive for 11 years of Hawk maintenance by the OP.
Ok then - another example - it’s cost almost £ 1/2 Billion to send 8,000 anti tank missiles at £40,000 a unit to Ukraine. It’ll be around £1/2 Billion when you add on the other stuff we sent and transporting it there - etc.

Must admit I thought the T.2 fleet were owned/operated/managed by the MFTS PFI contract, and thus maintainence and support was down to them, and incorporated into the cost of that.......clearly not.ericbee123 wrote: ↑Thu 31 Mar 2022, 10:41 amIt’s an 11 year contract for the whole Hawk fleet.

The Reds T.1's still need DA support from the manufacturer even with the rest of the fleet's flying days ending today.

The T2s were bought outright by the MoD

Re the Reds I heard a rumour that they are developing different coloured smoke dyes with the aim of displaying with a "rainbow" of colours to promote/celebrate diversity within the armed forces. Anyone confirm this?

Also, my brother in law works in the marketing dept of Coke Cola (UK) Ltd and they are in initial talks with the MOD to sponsor the Reds for a three year deal starting 2023. The idea is that they can retain their original colour but have the Coke logo on the fusalage. Coke will become the offical drink of the Red Arrows etc etc with a mobile promo unit attending airshows around the UK, the funds raised will partly offset the running costs. This is just an idea so don't be surprised if it is not implimented come next year.

Sounds about right, to keep 11 or so operational at any one time for the next 8 years.
