Fokker D.XXI reproduction '229', built over a period of many years by Jack van Egmond and his family, has made its first flight yesterday. Some photos here: https://www.scramble.nl/military-news/f ... rst-flight
Although a reproduction, the aircraft uses several original D.XXI parts and is powered by a Wright R-1820 that was part of a batch of ten engines bought by the Dutch Government in 1939 as spares for a D.XXI re-engining project (the D.XXI originally used a Bristol Mercury). Because of WWII that never happened and this particular engine is now finally part of a D.XXI, after leaving the factory it only has a 2.5 hour test run logged.

Fantastic news Well done to all involved. Where had the engine been hiding to only have test hours on it?
Re: Fokker D.XXI reproduction has flown
Jack van Egmond sr. got it from the collection of our National Military Museum (formerly the Militaire Luchtvaart Museum) at Soesterberg AB. I suspect it has been hiding in one of their storage areas... but it is interesting that it was never put to any use in all those years, even before the museum started.

What an amazing achievement and one of the aviation highlights of the year thus far. Superb!
