Nikon 2nd body dilema

Post by TAN »

After the price being announced for the D500,(amongst other things),i'm now looking at a possible 3 options.
1. Another D300s. 2.D7100 and 3.D7200,none of which will be new.
I don't want the hassle of having to change the lenses i already have, hence it having to be a Nikon.
Anybody made the upgrade from a D300s to 7100/200?,and find the image quality superior to the 300s?

Thanks in advance.

TAN.

If it's any help, I faced a similar dilemma last year and ended up buying a pre-owned D300S.

I purchased a D7100 in 2014 and kept my D300s as a second body.
The image quality and low light performance of the D7100 is superior to the D300s, so much so that I found I rarely used the D300s.
Ended up trading in the D300s for a D7200 last year and happily use the D7100 and D7200 alongside each other.

When one of my pair of D300s went belly up I replaced it with a D7100. At the time this was a reluctant replacement as I didnt think the D7100 would live up to the D300 or my expectations, what with the talk of the small buffer, lower shooting rate etc. Well I found myself using the D7100 more and more as the IQ was better than the D300 and the so called limitations were over hyped. As a result I sold my remaining D300 and replaced with another D7100.

At the money asked for D500 you can have a pair of D7100/D7200 and I dont think you will notice much difference in the way of IQ for aviation photography.
