Lenses and iso

Post by Mooshie1956 »

Just to put it simply, can a better lens let you get better results at higher iso. The reason I ask is I have been using a 100-300 lens on my Panasonic, and I bought the 100-400 at the beginning of the week. I decided to use auto iso in my test shots and I've been shooting some at 3200 iso but I'm not finding anywhere near the amount of noise I was getting on the old lens. Is this due to using a far better quality lens?.

No, if all things are equal (subject, lighting, aperture, exposure) there should be no difference in noise between two lenses, as the noise is from the sensor.

It is possible though that a lens that resolves more detail will allow you to use more noise reduction before losing the detail.
