Nikon Z5 Z6
Has anyone had any experience of using one of these mirrorless cameras from Nikon. I've been looking at them but I'm a little unsure if they are better than my 7200.

For aviation or for general photography?

Preferably for Aviation. Although I'm doing more wildlife at the moment.

Have you looked at the Sony A7III?

https://cameradecision.com/compare/Niko ... pha-A7-IIISony A7 III is the clear winner of this comparison. It has a higher Overall Score and beats Nikon Z5 in all criteria.
It has better general image quality, more features, more compact body and offers more value for the money

Re: Nikon Z5 Z6
Thanks Brian, but I don't really fancy changing all my lenses again. I'm wondering if it's worth going mirrorless with Nikon or holding off another year or so.

Re: Nikon Z5 Z6
If you go mirrorless with Nikon you would have to get new lens as Nikon mirrorless has a Z mount, where as Nikon SLR/DSLR cameras use an F mount, or get an adapter to use other Nikon lens on mirrorless.

That's why I'm looking at Nikon as I can get an adaptor for all my lenses that I have now.

I'm looking at making the same move, from the same camera. I'd like to stick with what I know, i.e. Nikon, but the Z series isn't really aimed at action/sports. Helluva portrait or street camera though.Mooshie1956 wrote: ↑Wed 16 Sep 2020, 8:56 amThat's why I'm looking at Nikon as I can get an adaptor for all my lenses that I have now.
I've decided to stick with the 7200 for the time being, it's still a great camera and I don't think if I'm being honest that a Z6 is going to feel much lighter on the end of a Bigma.

Nlkon are rumoured to be releasing updates of their Z 6 and Z 7 in the not too distant future, with twin processors and two memory card slots, so it may be worth waiting.
I have a Z 50 (crop sensor) for general photography, and It coped well with approach shots of Phenoms/Prefects/Tutors at Cranwell recently, focusing was fine and viewfinder lag negligible.

I have the Z6 with adapter for my F mount lenses and upgraded from the D7200. Although I got it primarily for landscape photography its also very good for aviation. Burst mode is 12FPS and it marries well with my sigma 150-600 and I certainly get a better hit rate than the D7200 on the limited amount of aviation photography I've done this year. The only thing I dislike is you get a black out between frames in burst mode making panning a bit more challenging but other thank that it's a win win.

Apologies for the long delay in replying - I've had my Z6 since November, my first full frame and I'm still getting to grips with it. Also bought the lens adaptor but I havent ventured out with that yet, though I will do soon.Mooshie1956 wrote: ↑Mon 14 Sep 2020, 7:23 pmPreferably for Aviation. This was taken with the 24-70 f4 S so shows what results you can get:

At the moment though I would say wait until the uprated versions come out, the AF has improved dramatically but still isnt there for Aviation (in my opinion) I tried to get an F15 landing at the Heath near the lights but the "fast" shutter just wasnt up to it (and the pics weren't that as well!). For general photography then I'd say it's great.
There is new glass in the offing - a 200-600 - now if they do improve the AF and bring out an uprated Z6 with dual cards slots and twin processors it may be worth jumping.
