A great choice of subject.

That was fun but hard work, I wanted about fifteen in my five... In a sense it turned into a commemoration set: USAAF; then Spitfires; then the contribution of Allied Air Forces many of whom were exiles out to liberate their own countries; then the transport workhorse and conveyor of airborne assault; finally the place of honour to a Spitfire that was actually there, on D-Day, in combat, accredited with the first enemy aircraft to be downed during the day. By all accounts the weather was fairly awful through the period, as well.

Not in the competition....it's out of focus, but I like the mixture and quantity of stripes

I take it Tomasz is happy that Korea was part of the D-Day operations?

Maybe he thinks it's just a web forum photo competition for a bit of fun and isn't meant to be taken too seriously?

The shots of Sea Furys and Fireflys with stripes are actually Korean War invasion stripes, not D-Day ones.

The black and white stripes on the Sea Fury and Firefly were applied during the Korean war rather than for D-Day. I'm not sure it matters much. They're still called "D-Day" stripes by many.

The most iconic D-Day plane is DC-3/C-47 - so it has to be the legendary view of it's shape with paratroopers jumping off...
