G'day all, this year was my fourth, and likely last, trip to the wilds of Wisconsin to attend this event. In the lead-up to Oshkosh, my wife and I spent a very enjoyable week in Chicago. Great beer, a wonderful Art Institute, cool music, delicious food and interesting architecture made for a great week.
As previously mentioned by Dan, Oshkosh 2022 was advertised as a USAF 75th anniversary celebration but the USN and USMC put more aircraft into the air for the airshow than the USAF. Go figure...
The number and breadth of warbird types more than made up for the dearth of USAF flying, so I came home a very happy little boy. The highlights for me were a pair of Bf-109s, the Grumman Cats display (Hellcat x 2, Bearcat x 3, Wildcat x 2 and Tigercat x 2) , 1 x Mosquito, 2 x P-39 Aircobra and the MiG-29. One small disappointment was that some of the best warbirds didn't fly during the airshow. I'd be happy to be corrected but I didn't see either of the P-39s or Bf-109s flying.
Positives:
Large numbers of warbirds and vintage aircraft in attendance.
Weather was perfect; probably the best ever for me.
Well-organised event with adequate food vendors, toilets, and transport.
I briefly met with Andy Shaw (Blackbird) on the 27 crowd line.
Negatives:
Why have two Bf-109s on display and not fly one/both?*
Same aircraft participated in the excellent (!) Grumman Cats display. Really? How nice would it have been to see the other Tigercat fly, or one of the 'other' Bearcats or Wildcats?*
The two Aircobras sat on the ground for the entire week.*
(*) This is what I observed but happy to be corrected if any of these flew whilst I was looking the other way.
Anyhow, here's the first batch of my images to which I'll add more as I process them. I'd be happy to receive critique on any/all of them. Thanks for viewing.

Re: George's Oshkosh 2022.
George, I completely agree with your comments.
Also my 4th Oshkosh and by far the best weather, However I can't take the frustration of not having the opportunity to photograph in flight the most iconic of warbirds that attended, the 2 Me-109's, the silver Tigercat, the King/Aircobra, the Mosquito.
It's not the despair it's the hope I can't take. This will be my last Oshkosh I will focus on good airshows where there is the intention to fly the warbirds.

A few more to add to the string of images. I was unaware of the MiG29's planned attendance but was receiving intel from a mate back home in Australia about rumours of its arrival. He knew that it had arrived before I did...

Lovely shots George, a particularly stunning selection of Grummans, including the pair of Hawkeyes.

Here's a few more that I've processed. Since we are a photography forum, I'll give a brief outline of my PP workflow.
1. I always record RAW images on either my Canon 5D Mk IV / Canon 100-400 L Mk II or Canon 6D Mk I / 24-105L Mk II.
2. RAW files are processed in Canon DPP4 to make slight adjustments to exposure, shadows/highlights, contrast and saturation. A TIFF is saved from this step.
3. The TIFF is opened in Photoshop CS6 and further small adjustments are made to colour balance, levels, shadows/highlights before changing file to an 8-bit file. Some sharpening (Smart Sharpen) is applied before saving the file as a JPEG.

Re: George's Oshkosh 2022 (**UPDATED 09 Aug 22**).
George - I completely agree with your comments. This was my third Oshkosh, and the least satisfying so far.
It feels ridiculous in some ways to criticise the show - hey, it's still Oshkosh, it's still amazing - but something this year just felt a bit 'off'.
I'm writing the UKAR review, and will be sure to include both the positives and the negatives. You've already hit the nail on the head, though - the lacklustre USAF participation at their own 75th anniversary party, and the frustration at the rarer/more interesting warbirds not taking part in the flying. When you take both of these factors and include the two very high-profile no-shows - the F-100 and the AC-130 - it all adds up to something which, unusually for this event, probably fell a bit short of expectations.
And yeah, I know how absurd that sounds given that we're talking about a show which still managed to feature flying displays from a U-2, E-2D pairs display (swoon), F-35C duo, EA-18G Growler duo, B-29, the Grumman 'cats', a Sea Fury and several MiG-17s. But by its own (crazily high) standards Oshkosh just didn't feel quite the same this year.
Great photos BTW, nice and crisp and some very fine captures.

Posting comments on an aviation-related chatroom, are ya? Looks like it an' all...
Re: George's Oshkosh 2022 (**UPDATED 10 Aug 22**).
OK, probably the last group that I'll post from this event. Despite some of the disappointments, this is one of the greatest gatherings of aircraft anywhere in the world. I have been very fortunate to attend on four occasions and I reckon that I've had my fill of it. Next targets are Omaka NZ, Old Warden and La Ferte Alais. As always, look for an Australian carrying way too much photo gear, wearing a large hat and a long-suffering wife in tow. Thanks to everyone who viewed and commented.
Only someone with >9,000 hours on type should attempt this. The wheels were cycled up as soon as it broke ground.

Re: George's Oshkosh 2022 (**UPDATED 10 Aug 22**).
What a superb set of images from a great event. The no-shows didn't stop my enjoyment of all the aircraft that did show up!
It was so good to meet up and have a chat on the Monday. I only got home yesterday, and what with everything else, will probably be a while before I get to posting any photos. This post viewtopic.php?t=87859 may go some way to explaining the noise that you've seen on my R5 photos. I didn't know that LR can cause noise so may have to rethink my workflow. At the moment I keep getting messages that my hard drive is nearly full so have had to move a lot of stuff but I can't use software that will create even bigger files and take a lot of time. Hmm.

Apologies, even though I said that my previous post would be the last, I could not resist giving an example of what frustrated me about this event. What committee decided to bring this magnificent aircraft to Wisconsin and not fly it during the airshow?

Can't resist adding another batch of images from an event that, as a young man, I never thought that I would ever attend. Definitely the last series of images.
