You hope Putin rots in hell for destroying an aeroplane rather than destroying a country and its people. I think you need to get your priorities right.

I think aviation enthusiasts being upset, annoyed, sad, etc about an iconic aircraft being needlessly destroyed is a perfectly valid response. It brings it home in a different way than footage from bombed cities, etc does.

No one is only concerned with the fate of this aircraft. We all are aware of the terrible events taking places against humans elsewhere. But this is still a sad thing to see.

Yep, nothing wrong with that. One thing doesn't preclude the other.

I will not post anymore on this forum as it appears to be politically motivated.
I was under the impression , given the title , it was an aviation forum.
Obviously I was wrong , and people would rather mudsling at my comments, ---- which are about Aviation.

I will stick to Fighter Control, who are not so pathetic.

The An-225 is irreplaceable -- anybody who does not think it is a great loss , is not, in my opinion an aviation enthusiast , and should not be looking at this site.
Stick to the social media stuff , which I am too old to understand !!

Don`t bother slagging me off , because I shall not be reading any more posts on this subject.

Very sad. Notwithstanding the terrible human loss and suffering. When I saw her at Brize last June I would never have thought a year later I would be watching this.

It's truly saddening what happened to the AN-225! Such a unique bird and totally disappointing that it's been destroyed!

In rememberance, I treated myself to a scale model of one, and I love it!

Let's hope they rebuild another Antonov AN-225 soon!!!

Excellent ambition! Can't help but wonder if we're not looking at the birth of "MTTS" here, but with longevity/purpose & devoid of financial leeches attached to another similarly named enterprise?

Concerning that it's going to be cheaper and easier for them to rebuild '82060 than the other, incomplete airframe!

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but it wasn't exactly busy before the invasion was it?

It was busier than the Vulcan 😉 and to be honest I've travelled further to see it than I would the Vulcan.
I really hope they get back in the air.
Cheers,

One of the main reasons for rebuilding the An-225 would be because commercially it was unique - it could carry items which no other aircraft could, either due to their physical dimensions or overall weight.
From other ( non aviation ) forums, the biggest charterers were power companies, primarily for moving transformers but also latterly for wind turbine components....so much so that apparently some companies essentially had it on a 'long term retainer' type lease where they could call on it at very short notice as and when required.
As things stand, those companies are now forced to fall back on the less effective transport methods, by sea and ( if viable ) by road, which - depending on distance - means it now takes weeks or even months to transport items which the An-225 could do in hours.

In other words, a lot of people have a vested interest in getting it flying again, which presumably means there's a better chance of it happening.

As for "a must for RIAT" I assume that was tongue in cheek, otherwise 🙈🤦‍♂️

Wait... what? On the assumption that the war ends positively for Ukraine, why wouldn't we want to see it on a RIAT wishlist?

Take your monkey emoji elsewhere, please. Ta.

Oh, a 'must' for the wishlist you mean? Yeah, I'll allow you that :face_with_monocle:
