Very nice Paul.

A bit of Games Workshop's Regal Blue might just be the ticket to finish off the edge on the tail mate.

Hi Deacon,

I did it like that to make it look like it's been weathered and to make it look like it's come away in the slipstream.

Oh poo!

Sorry Paul, I should have thought of that.

I thought of doing a similar thing with the Mirage 2000 Tiger Meet scheme I did as there were shots of that with paint missing off the tail.

Very nice - just a fe wlittle dust bunnies on the up close shot, but then again I do like the cockpit detail.

You do have the "waxy" gloss look right on the Hawk too

the red/white/blue on the fin is paint on the real thing & alll leading edges are covered with a a anti erosion tape, the lower edge of centre blast screen fits on a cross beam which is matt black, the 2 black angled stripes on the fin lower edge are just gloos black, we have to strip the piant to NDT the fin spar hi-tigue fasteners for cracks every 1200 flying hours.

here's the real 301, we removed the titles along the fuselage & the 100 from the fin, as the annivesary was well past.

I've got one of these in the stash, hope it comes out as well as that! The cockpit looks very nice, is that the Big Ed set?

outstanding model paul, and if hawrkkeeper is still around I was wondering who designs the paint job? I was only wondering because during gulf war part one Here at Mildenhall we had a crew chief who was given the job of all the nose art on our 135s. He was awesome, and i was just wondering if our groundcrews have any imput into any specal pait schemes.

the 100 year of naval aviation scheme was instigated by the NFSF boss at the time & given the OK by RAF & Hawk fleet management, [Matt Whitfield] he used to fly the Sea Vixen,
our a/c are still owned by the RAF but leased to RN for FRADU use, we have a nominated fleet of 14 a/c.

we [groundcrew] didn't know anything about it until he pitched up one day & ran it past our chief engineer, the final thumbs up came from RAF, paint job was done over a few weekends by RAF Cranwell paintshop, 7 a/c done in total & all still wear itas in my pic of 301 above.

Thanks for that Hawrkkeeper, great to know the story behind the paintjob. I remember in my last years at coningsby O/C 29 wanted to paint some of our FGR2 Phantoms, one with a red nose and Rudolph painted on it's sides and then the rest with the names of santas raindeer painted along thier sides. He had a hell of a job getting permisson, but it happend and they flew the whole formation around all the fighter command airbases around britain. I saw the paint jobs in the flesh but have never found any photo's of the event......Thanks again for the info.
