Duxford Wednesday 16th February:
Typhoon DA4 ZH590 was moved from Hangar 5 to Hangar 3 yesterday morning.
There's no news on the move to Newark, I can't find any comment from either NAM or IWM for more than two years now.
Work is continuing with the preparation of Herald G-APWJ for the move North:

When the advertising said 'In a different light' I assumed it would be this so didn't get a ticket. Psychedelic lighting is a Marmite thing. I don't like Marmite.

Well, the folk who turned up all seemed to enjoy the event and they had normal lighting as well for the 'first half'.
I was there working so only managed a few photos...

as someone who paid to go to this event , i found it ok considering im too im not convinced on coloured lighting.have done a few night shoots with lighting which i enjoy , the first part with normal light was for me just that normal light just another day at the office so to speak .
my biggest & only niggle on the spitfire lighting was every one more or less was from the front which for me was hard work trying to find something different ( my photography & talent is basic ) would have liked to of seen some rear 3/4 or side lighting but as i say that my only niggle .
fond the airspace side better which is a shame as i love my warbirds & spitfires

A section of Victor XH648 shows what we can expect to see in a few weeks as the 5 year (plus) project accelerates towards completion:
The port rear fuselage is next, roundel already applied:

Staying with Handley Page, the Herald's fin was removed this morning:
The DAS British Airliner Collection includes another Handley Page airframe, the fuselage of Hermes G-ALDG rests underneath Concorde G-AXDN.
(More on this 'relic' due next week)
For the record, two more Handley Page exhibits, Hastings TG528 and the nose of Halifax PN323:

Duxford Friday 25th February:
Cold and windy, but sunny for a change, and Hurricane R4118 was out for a compass swing:
This morning saw the arrival of a new resident tug, the markings matching the Harvard 'Wacky Wabbit'. I'm told it is a 1948 Ferguson TEA20, superbly rebuilt. A true classic (they only built half a million !)

Is that soft blend on the camouflage correct? Every RAF aircraft from the period that I’ve seen seems to have a hard-edged mask.

Interesting question. I have seen several examples of hard-edged camouflage patterns in museums, but to be sure you would need to check a close-up period photo. The ones I've found so far aren't clear enough to see if it is really a hard-edged mask or a soft edge that shows up as a hard edge due to the lack of resolution and/or the distance from which the photo was taken.

Interesting. Before going into restoration, XH648 was painted in a "grey and flat earthy" colour, not the green and grey currently being applied. I also recall the roundels previously being of type B low viz, not the type A that she is currently sporting. Does anyone know why IWM has chosen to do it differently to before?

The flat earthy colour was simply very faded dark green.
Without checking absolute dates she arrived in the mid 1970s and had a repaint in the 90s [?] which was not to modern standards. She was definitely in need of a major preservation project and it’s been fascinating watching the progress over the last five years. It shouldn’t be too long before she is moved, initially into the front of AirSpace; possibility without the outer wings attached for now as there are plans for major movements in that building . I don’t have definitive information on that so won’t guess.
As for hard v soft edges and roundabout types - pass.

There is a photo from 1992 here that shows how the previous scheme looked on this same part of the airframe. If this was applied after arrival at Duxford, it may not be representative of the in-service scheme.
